It is 100% about Danny. The kids dad wanted him here to be close MU. He loves our style. He chose SV because he wanted a rural area, not in Huntington
Today, I consider myself, the luckiest man on the face of the earth..

My point is Danny didn't bring him over here and place him. I know that for a fact. And from what I hear from a very reliable source Danny wasnt even interested when asked about him. So NO Danny didn't have this kid up his sleeve and brought him here to the states to hide him out and that is a fact.

  • If he is any good, he won't be hidden from the world.  There are no secrets and word will get out fast even if he played on the moon.

This is going to get out of hand and he will be the next Pete Moe before you know it lol. We are starting to become the school that creates legends in our own mind. Sad how far we are falling.

And if he is just a D2 type player, he can ride the bench 4-5 years for Dan without a worry, win-win.

A coach told me DD asked Chafin to bring him on board and work with him. I've known the guy for 40 years. He wouldn't speak without knowing. Whatever the case. We'll see how the kids develops. Maybe he'll work out, maybe he won't.

We will see. But Danny did NOT bring this kid to the states and place him.

Yikes, DD wants the coach "to work with him". That sounds another project player for the program. I am getting more concerned that Dan just can't recruit Division 1 players and has to take whatever is available.

Older fans will remember the last high school coach (Stewart Way) to be the head coach at MU. Mr Way was a very successful high school coach winning state championships and developing high school players who went on to play at Division 1 programs. Mr Way also couldn't recruit Division 1 material. History seems to repeat itself.

It's becoming more obvious all the time. When all the recruits is we "hope" they turn out good then there is a problem. MU may never been a hot bed for recruits but we used to get our share to get excited about from day one.

  • Ty, why do you even bother?
Wolf started this board, because of his passion for Marshall sports. He is a great guy, and a few on here (one in particular) take advantage of his board, and have ruined it for a site to find good information. Debate and opinions are great. It's just that no one likes listening to someone who spends his entire life on his platform, demeaning and undermining a media platform that recruits/players read that are constantly putting them down. This guy needs to go. Wolf, this guy is an obsessed individual that has taken over your board. Just because we all went to high school together, is 🚫 reason to allow this to continue. Ty, myself and many others have good inside Info that we could share, but he's always trying to one up everyone. He's a virus. Cut him loose and "Make HERD FANS Great Again!"

No more than you being obsessed with Danny and thinks every recruit is great. You wouldn't know bad recruiting if it hit you in the face. You are more worried about being buddy buddy than actually seeing the recruiting disaster that is really happening.

Smart move on someone's part.  Just yesterday, local TV station, Charleston-Huntington market, has a prime story on another shooting (killing?) right near the MU campus. Just what the school with its persistent enrollment problem needs!  Maybe Pres. Smith/BOG should consider a small, compact "branch campus" out in the SV area!!

Way did a good job with Allen, but Allen also had the desire to improve. Bob spent a lot time working to improve his game.  Way also worked with his former HHS player Bob Barrett who went on to play at VA Tech. Barrett also worked hard to improve his game and even became a dishwasher at a restaurant to improve his hand skills. Maybe you were on active duty when Way was the coach? I was in school when he was the MU head coach and my fraternity intramural team would beat his recruits in games at Gullickson Hall. Way was a good person and a great high school coach (better HS coach than Dan), but he wasn't a recruiter.

It appears according to the most recent media reports that it was a suicide by police. It was not great to see MU mentioned as being close by in the media reports.

I'm sure he appreciates you using his real name on a public message board.  What a jacka$$ move.  Shouldn't it be up to him if he'd like that disclosed?  He's too nice of a guy to say that to you, but I'm not.

Thats not how i heard it. And i know this coach as well. At least it was worded a little different to me. Won?t go into that though .I know the two fellows that are kind of getting upset with each other on this thread. Both are good guys. What i will say, is that its not 100 percent about Danny. He has a major recruiting problem. When you have a particular style that you play, that being shooting the three and moving the ball quickly. Then you recruit players that suit that style. So the first two players you get in this class are guys that can?t shoot.I don?t know about their defensive skills yet.I do think Dantoni is a super nice guy. But don?t ask me to say he?s good coach  or even a mediocre one at that.

Thanks for the nice words scope. And agree and have said Danny is a nice guy personally. But he has been here going on year 10 and has won exactly ZERO conference regular season title. And won ONE tournament title when everything fell in place and Elmore willed them to success. His recruiting is all over the place and it's like he is just taking anyone even if they don't fit his system. All we hear is the system is all five guys that can spread the floor and shoot the 3. Yet he recruits Toussaint, Mckey, Crawford, Martin and others on this team that can't shoot a lick from outside. Heck they may be decent players in a different system. And for a system that is predicated on quickness, ball movement and shooting, why is 80% of the team bigger than 6'7"? It's sad that Dusty May at FAU learned the system and he went out and got what it takes to succeed with it. His team is full of guards that can handle, shoot and play fast and rotates 2 bigs only inside.  Danny's team has got beat by bottom feeders the last 2 years in the conference tournament first game. But some people will never see all the shortcomings we are seeing.
