The AAC has already imploded. Most of notable FB programs gone. Lack teams with national appeal in FB and many locations are pro towns where press is hard to come by. That impacts attendance, viewership etc. Money going to go down and likely significantly. More spread out than ever. SBC had a deal with ESPN in last contract that their teams wouldn't be purged in realignment. One of smartest things ever done. SFlorida looking to get out. ECU etc hoping the money doesn't go down too significantly but would greatly benefit from SBC stability. They are not a good fit for AAC anymore. Their fans don't consider UNCC a rival and UNCC would have to be a lot better for it to ever materialize. Look at ECU FB schedule this year. Their conference schedule is weak and unappealing. Heck, we might be picked to win that league if we were in it this year.
IMO SBC would only add true value in the footprint and likely limit to two teams (one east and one west). ECU and Charlotte qualify in east, not sure about west. ECU much stronger FB than Charlotte. Greenville area is growing. Not likely SBC wants to go to Florida or Texas. UAB might be only decent fit in west. They have pretty good BB historically and have brand new FB stadium. Negative is Clark is gone.
We should all be thanking God the SBC situation worked out for us. Best G5 FB conf, one of top 3-4 soccer conferences, one of top baseball conferences, one of best SB conferences. Women's and men's basketball somewhat lagging but that is all about getting right coaches as the facilities and resources are similar in SBC as CUSA's were before breakup. It also gives MU an opportunity to lead in those two sports. I fully expect MU woman's basketball to jump to front 2-3 teams in league. Men's BB on life support competitively for reasons discussed at nauseum. At least the financial support/ticket sales is one of strongest in league, which means right coach should propel program. You could argue that SBC is most stable league in all of college sports right now in which D1 FB is being played. Which means league can focus on long term health and viability. In my opinion, that's a pretty good place to be.
