  • Would it be possible for you to wait and see how this team comes together and see the results? I hope this team makes you sound like a fool.  Voyles looks like a player and he shoots well. And a defensive upgrade.  I'm intrigued by Crawford and how he fits. Like its been said, we can't and don't have to replace Kinsey and Taylor's production with exact numbers. Its still a team game and as much as I loved those guys, the ball did slow down at times.  Its all about how these guy come together and run the system correctly.  Who's going to be the guy at the end of the game when we need a bucket?  We'll see.  Conner has the potential to take a big step this season.  Curffman is a guy that the opponents have to respect at all times. I really like what Martin brings to the table...seems to be a plug and play, pick and roll guy. OAK is OAK. What are we going to get from Fricks and McKey?  Theres a lot of potential there, so we'll see.  I just don't understand the constant negativity.

I must admit I had my doubts about Coach Huff. Now Dan has his chance to prove he can coach at the highest level. Dan needs to win the game at UK like Coach Huff did at Notre Dame. It is time for Dan to shock the world like Huff did last year. If Dan wins the game at UK he will become a legend at MU. JMO.

I think the chance of that is now at Mississippi State and Florida; just saying.

  • Marshall is playing Bluefield U located in Bluefield VA... not Bluefield State (WV).  Bluefield U is an NAIA school not NCAA D2.

Sorry, but looking at the schedule I printed off of HERD ZONE on Wednesday which clearly indicates that on Dec. 19 the HERD playing a home game with Bluefield STATE, which is in Bluefield, WV, and is a D-II State supported institution and is not the Baptist school, Bluefield U., in nearby Virginia!!  Now if that has changed, then the problem is in MU's "crack" sports information department, such as it is, who puts this info out!!

  • This narrative that Huntington is decaying and dying is so much BS from you out-of-towners. We get it, you left the area and are happy to no longer live here, I am happy that you're happy.

But, Huntington has made several improvements over the last decade and has a vibrant restaurant and art scene these days that wasn't present when I was a student at Marshall. If anything Huntington is going through a period of revitalization.

Ummm, that must be a long, long, long period of "revitalization" you are describing given the continuing DROP in the City's population that has been going on for what, four, five or six DECADES!!

  • Why on earth have we been wanting to play Radford? Horrible team from a horrible conference.

The Big South isn't a bad conference at all -- and just a few years ago Radford beat Texas and Notre Dame in the same season (both AT those schools).

Agree.  I'm sure that a lot of Radford Highlander fans are asking the same thing about their program after looking at Danny D's nearly decade tenure at the HERD basketball helm which has produced ONE significant Title, ONE NCAA and/or NIT appearance, and basically so-so to almost mediocre basketball the rest of the time!!

This drop in population, as described by the real estate industry in the area, is A LOT MORE from the city limits to the surrounding area. The metroplex remains relatively dormant in overall population.

And the drug issue is about sectors of the city. The "young money" floating inside the city, the development by GenZ and millenials is much greater than you'd recognize, or I image, like to admit. Restaurants everywhere, great adult choices from burgers and brews to fine dining.

Rant and rail all you'd like, but the city is doing better regardless of how much you like to make it sound like a hell hole.
Great young leaders, bringing in nice things for all involved; sure they'd much rather have your support than the continual tirade about how bad things are.

Their RPI was 26th out of 32 last year. That's a bad conference. Their Kenpom is also really bad:

    148- UNC Asheville
    168- Radford
    169- Longwood
    204- Gardner-Webb
    226- Campbell
    244- Winthrop
    254- USC Upstate
    299- High Point
    302- Charleston Southern
    344- Presbyterian

Better conference rating than the OVC with that fairly local school so many on here want us to play yearly.

Nobody said Morehead was a powerhouse. But they are another game fans can easily see in person about 60 miles away. They aren't D2 or scum of the earth. But a D1 game that gives fans another night out with family, eating and enjoying a game. No way we ever play all away and home games with teams better than Morehead. So why not enjoy an easy trip to an away game? And I don't think we have much room to stick our nose up at Morehead when it comes to basketball. We aren't exactly setting the college basketball world on fire.

27 to 29 if you really want to call that better. But I guess if the 27 best conference is really not bad at all according to you then the 29th best conference is real close?

C'mon, bust.  Night out enjoying "eating" in Morehead, KU??  REALLY?  Hell, read whf's post.  In booming and bustling "DYNAMIC" Huntington, there are 4-star restaurants virtually on every block, with lines a hundred feet long outside the doors.   Dining of every type, cuisine, quality, etc., all over the place!!  Why go to Morehead, KY, to eat?  More restaurants in Huntington than Mayoral "needle" giveaways. Now that's "IMPRESSIVE"!

Doing better than whom, whf?  Better than Huntington 5 years ago?  Great, glad to hear it.  But who else?  Statistics and stats, numbers don't really show that it is doing so much better than other comparable cities, do they?  How many of the 2,000 or so of Marshall's annual graduations are able to find suitable employment in Huntington, Cabell County yearly?  Particularly, those NOT from the City, County, or general area.  Fact is that not that many leaving Huntington are settling elsewhere in Cabell County.  Long the second most populous county in the State, now 4th most populous and who will say in about 6 years from now whether it will be 5th, or even 6th!  Will Huntington have 40,000 people when the 2030 Census is completed?    Yes, I'm glad that all those folks have nice dining and drinking options available in town when they pull the heads out of the ground like ostriches and come up for a "breath of fresh air" and, hopefully, a dose of "reality"!!

It was a joke, apparently a bad one. I just trying to make the point that MU basketball has become a body bad program for a P5 game. At least we expect more from our other MU sports programs.

  • I would expect the starting lineup to be:

    Voyles
    Curffman
    Conner
    Obinna
    Martin

    Then:
    Fricks
    McKey
    Toussaint
    Crawford
    Goran

I just don't see the cupboard as being bare. I'm excited to see how it comes together.

I see experience and a big body from Goran and a guy who can come in and give some quality minutes against teams with bigs. He?s not a starter nor should he have ever been, but a good role player. Similar with Toussaint.  I see flashes from Fricks that has shown potential to be a real contributor. A spark plug off of the bench. I don?t know what to expect with Mckey after the injury but he has size and skill and pedigree. I haven?t seen Crawford but I hope he can be a guard to come in for Curffman and Voyles. Id like to see another guard that?s able to contribute minutes also, but I?m Just tired of the doom and gloom.

Well I understand. But it is what it is. If you are excited about this roster then that is wonderful. Our best hope is that the SB is awful this year. And if you think a 6'5" Crawford is going to be the back up out front as a ball handler then we are in trouble. He is more of a 3 type player. Braun and Nutter are the only other 2 guards we have on this team. And that doesn't make me feel very comfortable.

A recent Forbes article has the cities 18-24 population among the poorest in the country. No job or professional prospects for the most part to keep that age group moving themselves forward. Yeah, lets keep doing what we're doing and continue to see a drop in population. Ask ourselves, why move to Huntington? What's the draw for a young professional or family? Needle exchange? Drug houses and counseling? Reno housing? I want this city to shine as much or more than the next guy, but until we see things for what they really are and get our heads out of the clouds, the brain drain and loss of population will continue. I applaud Brad and others for their efforts to turn things around, but they need help from the city and county to make big strides; and I don't see that help coming. jmho.
Tom Joyce, the Mayor of Parkersburg has the right attitude. Help those that we can with all our efforts, but let's not enable them or become a destination for addicts and users from other cities or states. Huntington has become just that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you saying that about Crawford because you've seen him play or just because he's 6'5?  Serious question. The videos i've watched seem to show that he has good handles and likes to get to the rim.
