  • Are you saying that about Crawford because you've seen him play or just because he's 6'5?  Serious question. The videos i've watched seem to show that he has good handles and likes to get to the rim.

That is why he was playing at Indiana St. just wait and see how our guard play does especially after Voyles and Curfman.

  • If ball rooms are so good then let's play them all in ball rooms across the country. We heard Dallas and the curtains were good also and it was pure low budget by CUSA. Maybe we can play a game at the rec center once a year?

So any self-respecting team should never play in a ballroom, eh? 😉

From the website: Celebrating its 12th year of elite collegiate tournament play, the 2023 Battle 4 Atlantis will include Arkansas, Memphis, Michigan, North Carolina, Northern Iowa, Stanford, Texas Tech, and Villanova.

The event once again falls during the Thanksgiving holiday. The 12-game, three-day tournament is played in the Imperial Arena, a grand ballroom transformed into a truly unique basketball venue.

At least those are big name teams and or tournaments. We are going to a ball room to play Radford? Lol!!! Why? If a lowly Radford wanted to play, why not at the Cam? What are we going to do next? Play Rio Grand at South Point high schools gym?

I don't have any special information, but I'm guessing both Radford and MU got a nice check for agreeing to do this.

  • So I assume Moe isn't playing this season.

Yeah. Have we received any confirmation on this?

Also, to those who go to practice/workouts, is Moe one of our better players? Should we expect him to start if he does end up playing this season?

Better than the gate at the Cam where there will actually be people paying for a ticket?

  • There are roughly 125 D1 basketball programs ranging from the Chicago/south Michigan -to- south New England -to- upper South Carolina -to- east Missouri/west Tennessee that are regional to the regional limit (again, give or take).  We've played a lot of them and many more than once.  i think it's fair to say that Marshall has done a fair job over the years, when considering all aspects of scheduling but especially the priorities of costs, 1 for 1 needs/home vs away.

          https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/College_basketball_division_1_teams.png

obviously, the Cayman lineup is disappointing but not the fault of Marshall, but just the state of affairs in CBB.  still, new faces from wherever is not a bad thing.  the Greenbrier is a potential program booster for Marshall if we become a sort of host.  it could eventually draw some 'players' but Marshall would also need to increase it's value at the same time.

the KY game is a no-brainer and although i'd like 2 to a rare 3 per year (Ohio St, Lville, Cincy, VA, VT, TN, etc) from a strictly fan excitement standpoint, i understand that a home game might be more lucrative/realistic (again, the Greenbrier could possibly help to lure some to a neutral site at least until the newness wears off).

i tend to waffle back and forth as to whether or not to play ANY D2 and lower schools ANY year, but again, i understand not being able to avoid them on occasion.  exhibition game opponents are enough of low-level schools

  • Just out of curiosity, about what do we make for a poorly attended home game? And what do we make from a blue blood road game?

  • Doing better than whom, whf?  Better than Huntington 5 years ago?  Great, glad to hear it.  But who else?  Statistics and stats, numbers don't really show that it is doing so much better than other comparable cities, do they?  How many of the 2,000 or so of Marshall's annual graduations are able to find suitable employment in Huntington, Cabell County yearly?  Particularly, those NOT from the City, County, or general area.  Fact is that not that many leaving Huntington are settling elsewhere in Cabell County.  Long the second most populous county in the State, now 4th most populous and who will say in about 6 years from now whether it will be 5th, or even 6th!  Will Huntington have 40,000 people when the 2030 Census is completed?    Yes, I'm glad that all those folks have nice dining and drinking options available in town when they pull the heads out of the ground like ostriches and come up for a "breath of fresh air" and, hopefully, a dose of "reality"!!
Huntington city limits seem to be your focus, Cincinnati city limits loses population steadily; yet the metroplex continues to grow.  Check with those in the know, the population in the area remains quite steady in the Huntington area.  Those who hate it will hate it, those who are striving to create a new realm of growth have energy and are continually fighting those who love to tear it down.  Don't know your particular purpose, but am glad many more love it, live in it, and are committed to growing it for themselves and its other residents.

You don't suppose this is a favor to a governor that gave us 13 million dollars for a baseball field?

Is that an answer?  I don't know either, so its okay to say it.  There are many reasons people get under recruited, especially during the COVID years, getting an extra year of scholarship and the portal movement.

You mean the tax payers money? But I'm sure it was mentioned. That is the way politics works instead of what is best for the fans.

Basically because sports are fun for me and I choose not to be miserable. I haven?t seen him play and neither have you. Nobody really knows what to expect besides possibly the coaches, teammates and maybe a few fans. I?m just saying wait before declaring the season a loss and crapping on our players.

Huntington area?  Meaning what?  Perhaps Ashland, Boyd County are growing.  Appears that a lot more economic activity, development going on there recently.  If that help Huntington, then great.  But surely you can't argue about everything in Cabell County is "remaining quite steady" when the population continues to stagnate, if not drop, decade after decade.  That is a FACT!!  Some prefer just to Drink the Steve Williams "Green Kool Aid", I guess, and like "Chip" in "Animal House" proclaim that "All is well"!!!

He has made more improvement from June 1 to August 1 than anyone. I had a long talk with him about that. He said in that time he has learned the offense and has become more familiar with the moves of his teammates. He is simply much more comfortable now.

  • always seems to come down to 7 to 8 players.  not having seen them- at face value, it seems like it could be the type of team that could take a page out of the women coach's past wholesale-substitution philosophy.  it might work for either (1) stacked teams like UK or Duke or (2) teams with no stars at all!

  • I hope we get some money for doing this. That situation is fine for HS teams but D1 college? Come on. The one positive aspect is - any Herd fans in the area may get a chance to see us play.
Maybe ! If they plan on standing up. Unreal that they would play a game there.

I read somewhere that The Greenbrier plans to do a basketball tournament/invitational starting next year.

This game is a sort of trial run.

Where will they sit? Will they roll in some bleachers to seat 3-5 hundred? I would think this was a joke if it were April1.
