"Notre Dame is an independent in football, but they?re in a conference for everything else," Kelly began, according to the Los Angeles Times. "Why aren?t we all independent for football?" Kelly's proposal is centered around a 64-team Power 5 division and separate 64-team Group of 5 division. Each would play for its own championship.

  • That would be perfect. I want the G5s to break off and have a playoff. This bowl crap is dumb.

  • I don't like it either. Playing for a bowl game every year matched up with the same ole same ole teams... Ohio, NIU etc. Hell, I just read one of the the way to early to predict bowl matchups and guess what? Ohio. Smdh.

  • I would be ok with a G5 playoff, but ONLY if the champion gets an auto bid into the 12 team CFP. In fact, I think it would drive interest in G5 football further.

  • The best G5 team is very good.  Very dangerous in a playoff.

This right here, let them go on ruining college football.  It is coming, its an unstable business plan.  They will eventually kill off fan support except at about 20 schools and no one will gaf.  Schools like Vandy, ISU, kstate, wvu etc are gonna realize that they are nothing but punching bags for most programs and fan interest will drop.  Feels like the downfall of Nascar. • I can see a future of about 20-25 schools that have a chance each year. Reality probably less than 10. Like you mention the lower level P5s are going to struggle.

  • Incorporate the semis and finals into a bowl as we currently do. Adds some excitement and a destination for players and fans. Then have new locations every year. Too many worthless bowls now that mean nothing in the grand scheme.
I like the idea of two separate divisions and two playoffs.

  • This would be a good idea as long as there's some sort of promotion/relegation between the divisions.

  • No. I?m fine with them limiting it to maybe 100 teams or so, but we deserve the opportunity to compete for a real championship.

Do away with the bowls and do a real playoff like FCS does. Have 5 conferences of around 20 teams with each getting an auto bid and then you have 11 at large spots for a 16 team playoff. I think that?s fair.

But they aren't going to do fair and you know it. There are some pretty good G5s out there and decent name recognition. Wouldn't be like the 1AA days although that was fun. I thing a G5 playoff would be awesome and still D1. WKU, Memphis, App St, Marshall, BoiseSt, Toledo, JMU, Liberty, ECU, etc,,, the best 16 G5s and get it on.

  • Wouldn't sing that tune if he was being relegated to the G5 group, which after the a$$beating he got from us at home last year is about all I think he deserves.

Give us equal access to the money and the playoffs with at least all ten league champs included and let the chips fall where they may.  He's mad because if Notre Dame doesn't join a conference for all sports they'll likely be left out in the cold.

You mean exactly like it?s been for the last 40-50 years?  Go Google best teams of the 70s, 80s, 90s, etc.  You?ll get a different team here and there coming in and going out, but there are 15?coremteams that are always there and the other 10 come from the same group of 20 or so teams.

Miami, VT and Nebraska are the teams out of style right now, for example, so a few different teams like TCU or maybe even a Cincinnati will get a little spotlight for a few years.   How many years have we had Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia/Notre Dame being the named playoff teams before the season even starts?

    1. Chip Kelly is the head coach at UCLA.  We've never played against him.
    2. Brian Kelly is the head coach at LSU. The last time we played against him was when he was at Cincinnati. The game was 2008 in Huntington.

  • There needs to be a split. Marshall has absolutely nothing in common with univ of Alabama or Washington for that matter.  If the ncaa gave a damn about college athletes they would step in and say sorry this is ridiculous but instead they are dictated to by the power brokers that line their pockets.  G5 should go the way of 1-aa and have a tournament to decide a champion they are already being forced out by conference expansion and soon won?t even be allowed in the room much less a seat at the table

  • I'd rather see Marshall play in an NY6 and lose than win a G5 tournament. It's not even close. Until that door is closed, a G5 tournament would be like playing in the CIT vs. the NCAA.

A split may be inevitable but I want to achieve everything possible under the current system.

  • I have no interest in seeing us in a true 1-AA division again with no chance at a real championship, no matter how unlikely it is.

Has everyone forgotten that the new playoff expansion format is still next season and still includes the highest 6 ranked conference champions, and 6 at larges? That's real access to the greatest prize. Screw some new format 1-AA title that doesn't mean anything. Even a G5 access bowl is way bigger than a G5 title.

The pac imploding actually helps us. If it dies, their will essentially be 2 G5 spots in the playoffs within the top 6 conference champs

You do know that Marcus Freeman was the ND coach last year? Kelly was at LSU. So he didn't take an ass beating from us.

Just saw Notre Dame mentioned and didn't notice the name.  I know who Chip and Brian are and where they coach(ed).  Just watched the replay of the game someone on here linked and was thinking their coach oughtta keep his mouth shut about the G5.  My bad.
