Coach Huff is in the 3rd year of a 4 year contract. The 4th year will start in January 2024. Huff's base salary is $755,500. He receives another $405,500 for tv/radio appearances and fundraising appearances. There also built in incentives for such things as winning season, attendance, ticket sales, bowl appearance, conference championship, and etc.
This year Marshall and Huff will start the renegotiation process. If Huff wins a conference championship then Marshall will try to tie him to a longer term, more money, and a bigger buyout. Huff's agent will shop around and test the waters.
My question is where are we if Huff doesn't win a championship? Where are we if we are 7 wins or less? Does Marshall extend the contract with a pay raise?
I think Huff will be offered a contract extension this season irregardless of the outcome. It will just be a matter of how long, how much, and the buyout.
Thoughts?
Actually Huffs base salary is $350k, he gets the 405k additional guaranteed for radio tv appearances, coaches show, and big green appearances. He then has other incentives that pay $30k for winning season, $50k for conference title, $75k if he makes access bowl, $50k for any bowl game appearance, then $100k tied to attendance and ticket sales (50k for each).
Also a couple cars and ancillary benefits. A million dollars a year ain't bad. Just 1.4 million for assistants i believe though. Would be really nice to have 1.5 million for our HC, and 2 mil for assistants. Could attract some much better coaches at that level
