  • They don't count Marshall out, but they do place Marshall at the bottom of second tier teams.

  • Tough to win without a QB. Most important position on the field.

Go through the schedule and compare QB to QB. There is your win loss record.

I'm still bullish on Fancher.  He played ok as a freshman.  He has tools.  Just needs polish, confidence, and a solid unit up front.  My tune might change after game 3 or 4 but I think he will surprise some folks.  If not, I believe McMahon is more than capable.  Still too early to hand the reigns to Pennington or Harrison.

Maybe Fancher has a religious incompatibility with teams on our schedule and wont play this year, you know, like Ali at Notre Dame last year.  Just though I'd give a little reminder of what your insight brings us.  How many of you didn't want Pennington to play after his Freshman debut?  Nothing I've seen precludes Fancher from getting better if he's healthy.  Having a bigger, better, and healthy o-line without a coaching change in mid-stream will also make a big difference.  The boy was running for his life most of last year.

Completely agree with you. I'm looking forward to seeing what Fancher can do if he's 100%, if the O line has improved and a full line up of receivers. The O line last season was maybe average at times which really impacted total offensive output.

I've been saying this also. And people wanted Byron benched after his first few games. We will be more than fine at QB if they use Fancher correctly.

Byron should have gotten hazard pay during his first year.

I agree - IMO the key is if Trickett can install an offense for Fancher's skill set and second do we have the offensive line who can protect!

Without either one we will be average at best on offense and be one dimensional ---- running !!

Well hopefully he's picking his dad's brain.  Wasn't he the O line coach for RamRod when fantastic running QB Pat White was in the hole.

Yes, he was.  He was also the OL coach at FSU when FSU went undefeated and won the BCS National Championship in 2013.  Rick is coaching OL at Jacksonville State this season.

Also Clint's brother, Travis, is the Offensive Coordinator at Coastal Carolina this season.

I think you are confusing speculation with evaluation of performance. Maybe you can, but I can't think of one thing I've been wrong about on this board relating to a player, coach, or program's performance...and I'm predicting how things will go months and even years ahead of time. Individual seasons, Snyder, Doc, Hamrick, the soccer team, Columbi last year, and the list goes on and on.

    This says it all...

Yup, you know you're in trouble when the goal for the season is to not let the starting QB lose the game.

That isn't My point. Every WB has their strengths. Cam is a weapon with his legs also. Use him more like a Pat White type. Throw it and read option it and keep defenses guessing. He can be hard to handle if used correctly. Then they have to worry about Ali also. This team can be special if the coaches use personnel correctly.

a lot of fans may not remember, but Leftwich took a beating like no other QB I've seen against Toledo his first year. That was brutal. As far as Fancher goes my expectation are he will have a huge leap the only concern I have are the receiving corp. Questions across the board with that unit.

  • I trust Trickett and Huff are smart enough to gear our scheme to our strengths and help Fancher. They know he is not Tom Brady with the deep ball. He can run and move well outside the pocket. We have a boat load of TE's, use them. We have a deep backfield. We have a veteran OL that by all reports have improved and will be a strong unit if they stay healthy.

    Let's see what happens.

I thought they did a good job last season with Colombi and compensating for the OL weaknesses.  They got us passed ND.  We will see some new stuff on offense this season for certain.  It will not look exactly like last season.  Keep the plays we ran well and install some plays for Fancher and the TEs.  Also more passing routes downfield.

Not to mention Michigan State and UNC.
