It is very apparent that Coach Huff has complete and total confidence in Cam Fancher as the guy, from now on. 

So according to Huff, Francher is going to be a very good QB for us this year.

He doesn't have to be phenomenal. He just needs to have grown and be better and used properly. He won't be the next Leftwich type passer. He just needs to hit 60% and also use his speedy legs. That combo would be killer.

I'm actually encouraged that this might not be just coach speak. If someone isn't performing, I've known Huff not to mince words. In Year 1, when asked about Grant Wells' performance, he would always just say, "Well, he's our quarterback." haha

I?m a Fancher fan and have been defending him since last year, but I think we need to remember the question.

Huff never said Fancher is a phenomenal QB. He said his progression in the off-season has been phenomenal. Big difference.

Having said that, I think he will be a good QB for us this year.

If he stays healthy, I think he'll be the most exciting QB Marshall has had in almost 10 years.  Can you imagine the pressure he'll put on LBs and safeties when he starts to run, but then finds a crossing Keaton 15 yards downfield, or one of our TEs streaking down the seam?

I think you will see him run more this season due to Huff going out and getting a similar style QB.  Last year you had Columbi dinged up and 3 freshmen behind him.  Will be the first time in quite awhile since we have had 2 QBs that have real game experience.  Maybe back to Cato and Froh?

So all Fancher has to do is be the fastest qb in history (combine clocked), rush for the most amount of yards by a quarterback ever, win 4 bowl games and be the mvp of the bowl game and be 6th all time for wins as a starting QB?   Because, that's what Pat White did not to mention 30-40 other records.

What Fancher really needs to do is when both the game is on the line or it's a pivotal moment and it's 3rd down.  He needs to convert the 3rd down with his feet or with his arm. 

All the other things that they are crediting Cam for this season like being a vocal leader, memorizing the playbook, watching film, calling audibles based on the defense are expected.

I didn't realize how many direct hits Fancher took last year while running the ball until someone here posted a video of his Highlights. If he is going to be this great runner that some think he is, he better learn to get out of bounds or get on the ground at the end of his runs.

My hope is his passing accuracy has improved greatly and he doesn't get happy feet at the first sign of pressure.
As always, much depends on our receivers. We have to find somebody who can get separation and give Fancher a
quick and open target.

I don't think Huff meant Fancher is phenomenal.  He said his development has been phenomenal.  There is a difference there.  I'm bullish on Fancher but I don't expect to see "Pat White" leading our offense.  I'll take last year's Fancher with more accuracy, confidence and understanding of the offensive plan.  That would be a significant upgrade.

And taking hits often affect passing accuracy and influence decision making. 

When we played Notre Dame.  I think it was the first time they got the ball, Buckner throws like a 22 yard pass and gets his clock cleaned by a D Lineman.  It was a bang/bang play and he wasn't late but I still worried it was a penalty because you don't see QBs taking hits like that often without it being a penalty.   The announcers didn't even notice or speak about the hit, but I think it effected Buckners confidence and decision making right away.
