  • Guessing Oregon State and Washington State will move to the MWC. AAC will try and get them, but I can't see those two teams wanting to fly all over the country for games, especially now that their budgets will be cut in half.

AAC may look to Georgia State or Texas State to back fill the loss of SMU.

  • I am sure the ACC Presidents are happy since all three schools are considered to be good to great academic institutions plus two are private to make the the private ACC members happy. I bet the ACC athletic directors are not happy with the scheduling problems and travel costs. I read that the Notre Dame wanted two of the schools invited so they had some influence? I wonder what the financials of the deal, do the new members receive full or partial revenue shares?

The SB is more stable. Although they can have TXST if they want them.

I can see Texas State being interested if approached. Geographically, they seem like a better fit with UTSA, UNT and Rice close by.

If that were the case, I'd imagine WKU or Louisiana Tech (for the West) would be top candidates to replace the Bobcats.

WKU's football is good and their basketball would definitely help out the conference.

  • The AAC is in trouble. It's a group of schools spending more to keep up than they can possibly take in over time. I wouldn't want to be in that situation. Jmo

WSU and OSU should just go MWC then the MWC should drop their name and take on the PAC 12 name.

I agree, it would be a dog fight between WKU and LT for that spot. Imo, either would be a good choice for the SBC. There is a part of me that would rather see LT because of the hate between them and the other 2 Louisiana schools. Those matchups would be pretty fun to watch. WKU would probably bring the better overall athletic department though.

The linked article says Standford and Cal get only 30% for revenues for the next 7 years and slowly increasing after that.  SMU gets no media money for 9 years.

In other words the new schools came begging hat in hand and the ACC screwed them to the wall.

According to some on the SB board, Tech burned some bridges with the Belt brass and members when they left for CUSA. I doubt Tech would be invited back to the SB. Now WKU, that's another story. As to us,  I like where Marshall is and hope we stay in the Belt. jmo

I was under the impression there was also bad blood towards WKU also and that was why they didn't return to the SBC when we joined.

I'd love to see C-USAv4,0 take Texas State  and either WKU or La Tech and ECU jump ship for SBA.  Probably won't happen, but one can dream.

I was guessing that was the deal. If Standford and Cal bring in more revenue that may keep FSU and Clemson happy in the short run since it will not hurt their shares.

Absolutely. What the AAC is now experiencing is what a lot of us feared would happen if we had gotten an invite back before we accepted the SBC invite. All the best teams that made the AAC are moving on, and the ones left behind are about to scream. The SBC was a great move for us.

News has now broke that Oregon State and Washington State will NOT be joining the AAC. So it's either the MWC that gets stronger or those 2 schools try to poach some AAC schools now and MWC schools next year to rebuild the conference. A lot of nervous fanbases right now. I am glad we aren't one of them.

  • Love the SBC...rivalries and close travel.  This is my dream schedule...live in NC so we have 4 road games within a few hour drive, solid home schedule with Va Tech..so much better than the AAC.

I would think it would be better if OSU and WSU could add teams to the PAC and keep the P5 deal. They could add Boise; Colorado State; Utah State; San Diego State and even Memphis from the AAC for basketball. I am not sure about the other MWC teams since I don't follow that league. If they don't care about geography they could look at Tulane and South Florida (Florida is the third largest state). If the AAC did lose teams to the PAC they could always find replacements. I would hope the AAC would take Texas State, we don't need a Texas team in the SBC

  • Logistically, a straight up merger between the MWC and PAC makes most the most sense but I'm sure there's some deadweight in the MWC that several parties would like to shed. Then there's the situation of MWC exit fees and the lack of a PAC media contract. Kind of crazy that the 2023 season has already started and there's so much up in the air for 2024.

I don't think it's going to happen but purely out of a sense of schadenfreude, I'd love for the PAC2 to invite a hodgepodge from the AAC and MWC and create a horrible abomination of a conference just so I can laugh at the likes of Memphis and Tulane fans bragging about being in a P5.

What network in their right might would allow the PAC-12 to keep their current media rights deal for Oregon State, Wash St and a bunch of MWC and AAC schools?  Plus, the PAC-12 owes Comcast $50M from overpayments.
