  • Now that we have 1 game under out belt, where do you see us at the end of the season?  Remember, you are never as bad as your worst game and never as good as your best game.

ECU- L (Never won there that I can remember.  Not the team to break that streak)

VT- L (Not the VT of old, but we have never beaten them period)

ODU-  W (We better win this one)

NC State- L (Thought we could win after watching them play, until I saw us play, lol)

GA st- W (Also struggled with fcs team, believe we squeek by them)

JMU- L (Just a better coached team than us, will be a good team by the time they come to Huntington)

Coastal- L (10th year qb will eat our lunch, huge loss here)

App St. -L (Tough game is tough)

GA S- L (Good looking team first game out, handled crappy fcs team like you should)

S Alabama- L (Poised qb and we have given up at this point, Coastal broke us the rest of the way and we are out of bowl eligibility)

Ark st- W (Just because they are Ark st)

4-8 is where I see us ending up at, maybe I'm putting too much credence into this last game.  By heart says 6-6, but my brain says 4 wins.   Any who!   What say you guys?

Rip Van Champ missed fifteen years of Tan man and Doc.

  • I'm just as disappointed as many of you. I find it hilarious that some are pretending Albany was just really good. We looked unprepared, unimaginative and undisciplined.

Having said that it's the first game of the year, weird stuff happens and I'm not ready to say we are bad. Let's see how we look next week.

With Ali I still think our floor is a .500 team. I'll go with 7-5 but will adjust based on next game.

I suffered through that unfortunately. Another massive fan exodus coming soon. Ali is a beast. Defense is ok. The passing game (specifically QB room), preparation, execution, and discipline have never looked worse. It's crazy in 2023 some of our fans think we can win with zero passing game.

  • Looking at the glass half full. The last 20 or so minutes our offense opened things up. Fancher scrambling opened up lanes for Ali and short passes. Our D played pretty good except for slants. Albanys last TD was a great call and execution.

    Go Herd!

I think we're capable of winning them all but we're also capable of losing at least 2.  So 12-0 or 10-2

With Ali I still think our floor is a .500 team. I'll go with 7-5 but will adjust based on next game.

I said this before: If our offense rests on the shoulders of a single (albeit, stud) RB and you're counting on him not to get hurt over a 12-game season, then we're going to see a boring, underacheiving (overall program-wise) season.

For those who are saying, 'we were vanilla on purpose'...bullsh$iT. Your tape needs to show that the offense is ready, willing and able to stretch the field. That might keep Ali healthy.

Someone posted that Fancher's 80% completion rate should be expected, considering passes that he threw and that is correct. Short screens, that push pass end-round and swing passes should be close to automatic. This offense would be a lot healthier if that completion rate was, say 62%, with 2-3 completed long passes, along with some slant routes and dig routes in the middle of the field. Someone pointed out that we're running what amounts to a red-zone offense almost all the time. That appears to be the case.

  • Man, right now, I honestly feel that this season could go anywhere from 4 or 5 wins to a 9-3 or perhaps even 10-2 final record, regular season wise

As far as "stretching the field", passing wise, that is on Trickett and Huff, or with Huff's approval.  If "stretching the field" is not in the game plan mainly due to the QB's inability to do so, and he remains the starting QB, that's SOLELY on Huff!!

I think we need to wait until after the ECU game to make any real assessment. Remember how things can change week to week. See ND-BG. I figure we were playing a very vanilla basic scheme against Albany and it's not an easy thing to change when you have put in your gameplan all week. Plus I'm sure the team wasn't mentally in this game thinking, it's only Albany. Plus I think they were better than many thought. You add all that up and that is how things can get ugly. Now we have a week under our belt to watch film and learn. And I'm sure the game plan will be much different for ECU. How many times have we heard "where was this team last week?"
