  • JMU is looking very sharp at home today vs. the supposedly best in the west, USA.
The Thursday night contest in Huntington in 3 weeks looks like could be the most important regular season game of the year.

    Yep,
But gotta dispose of the Butterflies today and then hopefully overcome the ACC officials for that to be a huge game.

  • That "best" team in the SBC West lost to CMU last week. CMU only other victory is over UNH by 3 points.  South will 2-3 after this game. The East Division is way better than the West Division.

You can't be serious. They must have meant the AAC not the ACC.

  • Might want to pump the brakes on this topic with what we're seeing right now.
"On rainy days, the early justices would enliven case conferences with wine. On other days, even if the sun was shining, Chief Justice John Marshall would order wine anyway, saying, 'Our jurisdiction is so vast that it must be raining somewhere.' "

Did you  buy some of the stuff he was smoking? JMU is about an hour from UVA and two hours from VA Tech. They don't have a media market (one small time TV station in Harrisonburg). JMU is basically a liberal arts college with few ph D programs. Low attendance and no brand.

They had a good crowd today.
Their AD has been pretty open about getting into a P5 conference. JMU played the long game before making the jump into FBS...

I lived in VA for a long time. UVA and VA Tech wouldn't support JMU for membership in the ACC. UVA didn't even support VA Tech when they applied for the ACC. The ACC presidents wouldn't vote for JMU membership because of academics. VA Tech didn't have the votes to get into the ACC until the VA governor forced UVA to change their vote which got them over the hump. Duke; WF and UNC didn't want VA Tech in the conference.   The rumor at the time was that a large donation was made to the governors campaign fund to get him involved.

If the ACC presidents looked down their noses at VA Tech, they would laugh at jmu.

Top to bottom, JMU has a very solid, and overall successful, athletic department across the range of its Athletics teams as anyone in all of so-called G5 or "Mid-Major" schools in D1.  And while MU scratches and digs through an ever-dwindling pool of potential students in Huntington and the hills and hollows of WV, Eastern KY and SE Ohio, JMU has a flood of growing potential students yearly in Central and Northern VA, Richmond, Washington and Baltimore, plus Eastern PA, NJ, etc.

That's pretty arrogant and laughable. Sounds like Charlotte. UVA and Tech would never let them in.

  • If the ACC goes the way of the PAC, and ends up with WF and BC left over, then yes JMU gets in. I would hope at that point we have a shot, along with App, ECU, USF, Tulane, Memphis, etc.

    We have the brand.
    We are building the facilities.
And we have an administration that is forward thinking.

We need to do whatever it takes to stay with App and JMU. Just my opinion.

  • Academically JMU is a good school. Not easy to get accepted. That was a factor before FS and VT. So who knows.

Back in the old days, when JMU held down its enrollment, it was selective. JMU decided to go for growth and opened up enrollment and their acceptance is now 76.8%.

VA Tech acceptance rate is 56%.

FYI: FSU acceptance rate is 25%

  • Rivalries take a while to develop, but I just don't like them. It is not for any particular reason and maybe over time that'll dull a little. I think it's mostly the fact that they seem really arrogant and my deep down hunch that they will become a massive thorn in our side in the SBC East.

I work in Florida and FSU has gotten very difficult to get into.  I have dual residency between Fl and NC and have children looking at colleges and FSU has very high standards for acceptance.

According to the below site U of Florida is even more selective.  Hard to imagine that 78,000 applied at FSU. I live in Florida and Florida is the third largest population state in the US.

    School Name                                           Applicants      Acceptance Rate
Florida State University Tallahassee, FL   78,088      25.00%
University of Florida Gainesville, FL           64,473      23.00%

  • Not sure how this can be game of the year in the Sun Belt when James Madison is not eligible for a conference championship (because of the 2 year transition period to FCS to FBS).

It is important for us, because they can definitely mess things up for us, and the standings in the East.
