  • I don't think Huff's "itchin to get out" of here.  I think he'll jump on the right offer from the right school, but so will any coach in the game.  We know he aspires to move up and make his mark, but I don't believe he dislikes being the coach of the Herd.  We're not a destination job for an ambitious winner.  We're the perfect job for a complacent middling coach because we're too poor to buy them out and fire them.  But I hope Huff gets a real good job if he is going so the next coach knows it can be done from here.  Donnan was the last guy to move up and out.  That's a long time ago.

  • Pruett had job offers, Houston was going to double his salary, and he thought long and hard about it and choose to be loyal to his alma mater.

I would be absolutely shocked if Coach Huff is on the sideline next year.  I just hope he doesn't take all our talent with him.

  • Pruett was gone until Eloise said no to the move. Bob was actually in Houston when it leaked out he was going to take the job. Houston was in CUSA at the time they offered him the job, not exactly a big time program but they did offer Bob a lot of money. That was the only serious offer he had while at MU that I remember.

Donovan left MU for the SEC job at UF which was a major program at the time.

I didn't know he was in Houston.  I think you meant Georgia, but wrote Florida

  • At the airport, after arriving from NY, Pruett was asked about Houston and he said "What's $4 million amongst friends?"

  • I heard Bob Pruett say his dream job was at Marshall and he would call the Athletic Director and ask about the job.  He interviewed when Donnan was hired and the AD told him he needed National
Experience and Pruett took that to mean he had to be on TV.  He was very happy at his current job.

So Pruett saw Florida had a Defensive Coordinator job.  Spurrier had coached at Duke and Pruett was the D Coordinator at Duke and Pruett had gotten the better of Spurrier a couple times.  So he got hired to get on TV.

Sorry I thought that said Donnan because I was reading from a small phone screen and because the conversation was about football coaches leaving.

Not sure what are you posting. Lee Moon (MU AD) at the time told Bob that he needed experience as a coordinator a major program to be considered for the MU job. Bob then went out and got the DC position at UF which enable him to be a candidate at MU.

Bob really wanted to be the MU football coach, but he would have taken the Houston job. His wife didn't want to leave MU and WV so he reneged on the Houston offer. He had agreed to the Houston job, but he hadn't signed a contract.
