  • It was called a foul by Fujita for interfering with the goalkeeper.  Fujita Makes contact with their GK and impedes him.  The assistant wasn't signaling for offsides, he was signaling for a foul to be called.

I have to watch it again but at first look I don't see anyone interfering to GK ability to play his position.

  • Last I heard AGP is expected back this season but that was a couple weeks ago

The word on the street has been he will be back this Friday against his former team coastal. I'll be interested to see if that's fact or fiction but murmurings have been for a few weeks that that's the target

That would be great. Hopefully he will be 100%. We've missed him for sure. Having him healthy for WVU would be huge!

Was it the the assistant that made the call?

He's on the north side of the pitch looking south, it might have appeared to be interference from his perspective.

That's what I heard as well

Hopefully his recovery stayed on that track

I didn?t see anything worthy of a foul either. It also looked like the flag went up well before any interference would have occurred. Strange call.

It was a bad call - usually, having an AR on the side and the center in the middle or behind the play keeps that misinterpretation from happening, but it was apparent the AR had a bad angle and the center didn't want to overrule him.

  • - Att. for Ga State was 2,042
    - The NCAA selection committee will release their in-season top 16 on Friday October 20 at halftime of the Boston College vs ?? match on ACC Network.  This gives good insight into how the rankings compare to how the committee sees things. Of course, we know they look much more at RPI.  This ranking is a precursor to the post conference tournaments/selection show rankings.
    - Going to be hard to keep Sordo off field the way he has been playing.
    - Announcers were wrong on a couple of facts. Georgia State did not play in CAA during the SB soccer non season. Both they and Ga Southern were in MAC along with WVU.  Ga State went to NCAAs that year and won in 1st round. MU does not lead SB in attendance. South Carolina does. SC also leads nation and did at least last year too. They regularly get 4,000+ as you see below. And they still have their two biggest draws yet to come.

If he is GTG, he'll probably be held out until the last 15-20 minutes of the 2nd half.
The other probablitiy would be the last part of the first half.

As much as those guys run, there's bound to be some conditioning required.
The old saying "game shape" is a real thing. So getting him some PT before the stretch run will be important.

  • Adam and Sordo need to keep their heads

Far too easy to get those two hotheads wound up and then they do stupid selfish shite that might end up costing the team

One area I would like to see Grassie improve

We are easy to get off our game with head games from opponents

I've watched WVU a few times and I wouldn't be shocked if that's what they try to do. WVU is mouthy and chippy. Their crowd will be all over us.

Guys gotta stay cool and if they can't, Grassie has to have a fast hook to head off problems and cool them off

I didn?t realize South Carolina had that good of attendance.

Question: do they charge for attendance or is it free? It?s really good either way, just curious.

  • Yes, South Carolina charges...

Season Tickets = $25 ($10 youth)... for an extra $10 you upgrade and get the official team scarf to pickup at the stadium (or shipped to you for $8 more)
    Individual Game = $5 ($3 youth)

    -----------------

Somewhat easy to overlook or never have known if not paying attention to the sport, but USC had a run from the late 80s through most of the 90s where they were considered a top tier program, making the NCAA Tournament 15 times in 18 seasons, including one National Runner-up and one other Semi-Finals appearance.  They won C-USA 3 times.  Mark Benson was their head coach for 32 years, and his track record for the first 22 years was pretty respectable nationally, but then they accomplished very little over his final 10 seasons which featured many losing seasons.  It was sort of the situation where he's the one that built the program, so it's hard to get rid of their soccer legend who built everything that program had.  He finally retired and they are on year 3 of their new coach, who I think is on his way to building a contender in the SBC.

They do charge and they have a great soccer stadium.  Wish we would have the money to build that type of stadium.  But happy to have what we have and the commitment to make it better.

  • The coaches poll is out. MU received 7 of the 8 first place votes. This week UCF instead of WVU received the other vote.

I wonder if Grassie is voting against the Herd to motivate the team or if another coach has issues with Grassie. There is no reason for UCF to receive that vote. Based upon the overall points, the other voter had the Herd at #2.

  • We have now been #1 for a month--4 straight polls.

Preseason Poll we were #11--which is usually a near replica of the previous season ending.  Week #1 we moved up to #5.  Week #2 we became #2 and spent two weeks there.  Week #4 through #7 we have been #1.  The 2nd time we were consensus #1 with all 8 voters agreeing.  The last two weeks one coach voted us #2 and first WVU and now UCF #1.

Of course all of this is window dressing.  What really matters is RPI and Tier 1 & 2 wins.  We want a top 4 seeding for the NCAA Tourney so that we will have home games for as long as we win.
