  • I like these a lot. I am glad our athletic department is doing this. I am a bit of an oddity....I like Marshall basketball more than football.

Here is the link to Dan's Press Conference where Nate Martin was also interviewed.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I57iKz9PHag

*Dan said he is still looking at who is going to be the go-to guy late in a game. He said we can no longer look for Tavion. He said they are looking for that guy right now.

*Dan said Obinna has really improved his offensive game. He thought he was really improved. Dan said Nate is a lot better than they thought he was when they signed him. He said Curfman has developed "a little bit of game" off the dribble. He said those were the guys that were improved.

*Dan still says he is also looking for the leaders.

*Dan said that a lot of the OOC teams are ranked Top 4 pre-season in their conferences.

Coach Caldwell was interviewed along with Mississippi State transfer Aislynn Hayes:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L-QKVwuNKk

*Coach Caldwell always thinks they are behind on development, but that she always feels that way where she has been.

*She says that players are ready to play another team. She says they have been going hard at each other since June and are ready for a scrimmage.

*She says she believes in making practices harder than games. She believes that makes teams better as the season progresses and builds toughnesses and grit.

*She once again won't highlight players. She says they have installed three presses as a team. Going to add some zone offense next couple of days.

That is it for the week. I enjoy these!

As a footnote, Dan once again had to get a dig in on his 'tough critics'. In Dan's words, they "probably aren't winners anyways". Quite frankly Dan, this is the wrong approach. I know where you get this. That is fine if you want to go in that direction. But it is a mistake to do this. You have it really good Dan. Your press conferences are easy and friendly questions are always asked. Your coach's show with tweets and texts rarely has one ounce of criticism. So where do you get this Dan? The fanbase tunes in to these to find out information about the team, how they are practicing, how individual players are progressing, what does the team need more work on.......not your childish digs at message board posters. I like you Dan, so do better.

I will also add that one difference I have noticed from the players when they were interviewed is that the men's players always talk about how fun it is while the women's players talk about how hard practice is. I am not lying. These videos are out there. Hayes played successfully at MTSU and at SEC Mississippi State. She said today that these are the toughest practices she has been a part of, but that she likes to win as much as Coach Caldwell likes to win.

I'm glad they are doing these also. We hearabout how we are going to press and play fast etc,,, but we hear it every year. Now we do play fast to and extent. But when the season starts just watch how Kim's teams play. I have no idea how many the girls will win but I'll guarantee, you won't be confused on if they are pressing and playing fast. And how many times has Dan said about players, they are better than we thought when we recruited them? Then what was you recruiting? Guys you thought needed a lot of work? But I do enjoy these and hope both teams have great years.

  • Fun doesn't win league titles at the D1 level. Give Caldwell a few years to get some athletes in here - she should do very well. On the surface, I think she is a Grassie type hire; and I don't even follow womens b'ball. Good luck to both this season.

    Great synopsis. Great post.
"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity; they seem more afraid of life than of death"  – James F. Byrnes

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS

I agree. I think she could take woman's basketball to a complete different level. We may become a soccer and woman's basketball school over taking football and mens basketball for success. Her style will draw fans because it's so fun to watch the full court pressure. It will also help recruiting. Sky is the limit for woman's basketball.

  • Dans talking about how tough the schedule is already tells me all I need to know with how the season is going to go.

  • Dan is looking for go-to-players or leaders. Good luck with that.

Women's basketball looks to be on the rise. A good young coach that can recruit.
