Topic: Rumor I Heard From ECU Fan re MU-ECU Series

I once lived in Greenville (NC) and stay in contact with ECU fans.  Today, one told me that he had heard from an ECU administrator that Marshall wants to cancel the remaining home-and-home contract with ECU.  I know some on here are in the MU athletic administration.  I'm just wondering if anyone can confirm, or deny, this?  If true, it would be a shame!

Maybe ECU is wanting to cancel and they are making us looks like the heavy. We did win this last game. Doesn't make sense to throw away a home game that would have good attendance. jmo

I don't see that game being canceled.  I think ECU appreciated the crowd we sent there and wants to repay the favor.

If you go and look at the series, it obvious that ECU or MU don't appear to be interested in a long term series. After the plane crash, we didn't play them for another 8 years and then we didn't play another game against them for 21 years and that was only for a bowl game. Take out the bowl game and it would 25 years before we played again that was because we were conference mates. We then played 9 conference games and then went another 8 years before playing after ECU left CUSA. Both schools have gone long periods where we never played except for being conference mates. During this period ECU use to play wvu a lot and you have to wonder if that was a factor in not playing MU.

The current series was for only two games and ECU is scheduled to play here in 2025.

The only way I can see this being cancelled is in mutual interest of both programs meaning the availability of a payout game. We all know Marshall isn't scared of scheduling a Stony Brook as a replacement home game 🙄

My ECU friend reminded me that the 2020 Covid game was to be played in Week Zero of the 2020 season.  It was re-scheduled to a later date as part of the original contract.  So, that means that as it now stands, ECU comes to Huntington in 2025 and the 2020 game, which is still contracted to be played in Greenville, has a date to be determined.  However, as I posted, my ECU friend says that Spears is trying to cancel the contract.  Stay tuned...

TBH, they've sucked since 2014. They beat us in 2021, but we handled them easily and then got sloppy and gave the game away.  There are better P5 and G5 games out there. 

Or the tinfoil hat theory is they're clearing the games because they will be moved to conference games sooner than later.

Why do we owe ECU a home game for 2020?  Does Pitt owe us a home game?  I know Boise scheduled a makeup game.  ECU canceled when a lot of teams were still meeting obligations.  I don't feel like we should owe them anything.  Maybe Spears feels the same way.  We have fulfilled a 1-1 if not thee 1-1.  Best time to get out of it if e want to.

Would you rather not hear any news?  Much of what we hear is early, not public, and wouldn't have documentation.   I doubt his friend would be privy to a memo stating we are canceling and even if he was he would be forbidden from sharing it at the risk of never getting anymore information.  I'd rather catch a tidbit of unsubstantiated rumor than never hear of anything going on till our stellar press force dug something up.  They're only ever going to say what they've been told to say.  We know a lot more about what is going on well before it's in the papers or on official social media for this reason. 

I don't understand why people get so mad because someone repeats what they heard or can't name how they heard it.  Duh.  Like that nurse guy that told us all about Ali last year that no one believed because he couldn't say more.  Got raked over the coals by you people and, of course, was right as usual and Marshall was covering up the injury for whatever reason or how it happened.

Just take it in and make up your own mind.  But don't discourage people from sharing what they know or think they do.  That's about the only reason to be here is to find nuggets of information people heard or found from obscure places.  Well that, and to b!tch.

I use to live in coastal NC and I own rental property there. I know several ECU grads who are major contributors and they haven't heard anything about this rumor.
