It happened near the end of the JMU game. He grabbed his hand immediately and went to the tent after a play.

Just don't like trying to joke around with legit injuries.

Let?s stop this. He?s a great kid who my family knows personally. He?s frustrated, more so than us fans. Just stop.
"What day is it, son?" "Game Day." "What day?"  "Game Day!" "Thats Right! Time to play till the whistle blows!"

I?m sure he is a great kid but that doesn?t mean that he can?t be criticized when he makes a statement

His statement was to stick up for his teammates because he knows he?s the leader and the guy that has the cred to make the statement. I don?t expect a 23 year old guy to completely understand the best way to deliver the message, but I respect his effort.

Nothing good came from his comment, and I'm doubtful that it will.  We are all, once in a while (unless we aren't human) capable of letting our mouth, that double-edged sword, get ahead of our head.  He did in this case, and I'm betting he'd like to take some of his words back.  23 isn't young, and for a young man who's been involved in five years of college football, an NIL negotiation, and such, it was a pure mistake.  He'll live through it, and so will we.

Actually, someone alluded to the true issue, his disgust with the results of the team.  He didn't choose to stay here to lose....either.

I find it funny that grown men, fans, etc. (And I am at fault), can feel its their right and privilage to criticize a player; but for some reason feel insulted/upset when player criticize the fans. Sure, it's not the best look, but he's a competitor and passionate - can't fault him there.

Don't know if you were referring to me for criticizing Porter, my post was an observation, that he made a mistake.  Do you feel it was or wasn't a mistake for him to make that comment?

I believe Porter came back for a sixth year, not sure? I believe his academic major required a great deal of clinical time/work and he wouldn't have the time to play football and finish his program this fall. He is a great player, but I don't think he will be in the NFL. For him to sacrifice his ability to start his career and play football at MU shows his love for MU. I know he got some NIL money, but he will make a lot more income when starts work. Football at the college level is hard and potentially dangerous work.

I will give him a pass on his comments.

  • Owen is a great kid from a great family. I appreciate his contributions throughout his career and we were fortunate he came back. I also know he is frustrated as are others on the team. My opinion is this staff has been fully exposed for all to see and no presser rambling BS will change that fact. But now we know that it's time to support our players. Coaching will resolve itself.

I get it. You?re pissed. So am I. And was it the way to go about it? No. It wasn?t. But the kid (remember, kid) is trying to defend guys he?s shed blood, sweat, and tears with. My point in saying my family knows him is trying to communicate to yall that he LOVES this school. Just like we do. And while the comment may have been misplaced, there is no reason to string him up on the message boards about it. Talk all the %^&* you want to me. I couldn?t care less how people view me here. But he?s a kid who?s played his butt off for Marshall and has just as much right as any of us; no, MORE right to be pissed than any of us. So again, just leave it be and have an understanding that people say out of pocket stuff when they?re emotional.

It was a general observation by me. While his statement was made via emotion, he could have worded it better. I don't think he was in the wrong though.

  • Here is my observation in finality; I think he's heard that stuff elsewhere and let his tongue get ahead of his mind.  I suspect, again suspect...don't know, that there's been talk about the fan base being upset, and that he can't see the forest for the trees from his vision point, a boo is a boo, no matter who it is directed at.  But I also think it is appropriate for folks to quit calling 23 year olds "kids", and help them start to realize that words flow out of the mouth, but never back in to be recaptured and edited.  This, for all of us, should be a learning experience. For Owen, it can and should be to edit before you speak, for a lot of us, it can and should be ...consider the source.

I am on/in the Facebook Marshall Fans group, and what a cluster that is. Everyone trying to tell everyone else what they should and shouldn't say, do, be, how to act....as a fan.  It amazes me how any of us can give anyone else direction on what a fan is and how they should act.  If the most sarcastic fan to the most complacent fan isn't upset right now with results, they're a fan of the school and not necessarily a football fan of the school. So I'm going to try to do my best to help nip it all in the bud.  Things are tough right now. Everyone, players, coaches, fans and whatever else, can be giving their all; but we all want the results of efforts to change.  Hopefully they will.

  • I did not like his comments about fans, but he is a True Son of Marshall.  For those of us from the best County, we should all respect him.  Some dude who is known for comments in the HD should not define Wayne County royalty.  Not always happy with Porter?s comments, but I am firmly behind him.  #GoAwayCabell
