  • We are morons if we don't fire Huff and get Rich Rod at all costs. It makes too much sense. He is one of the few quality HC prospects out there that can stand the state of WV. Huff and fam can't wait to get out of here. We can help make Huff's dream come true. Someone will pick Rich Rod up at the end of this year or next. He'll run the offense we all want. There aren't many scenarios with this much upside out there. Our administration won't do it (because Marshall is going to Marshall)...but we should.

And before someone says that South Carolina is terrible this year with a 3-6 record...they would beat 70% of college football teams.

  • He had the right call too on that pick six. The QB didn't let it develop, but the coach had the call.

South Carolina probably spends 20 times on football than Jax St.

  • I bet we could get him if we want him. It doesn't matter if Jax State pays him the same as we would. Our facilities dwarf theirs and he would probably love to come back to his home state of WV.

Another interesting coach I would like to see us take a look at is Sean Lewis (former Kent State HC), and OC at Colorado. He showed interest about the job back when we hired Huff. Word on the street is Coach Prime is demoting him to signaling plays in from the sideline tonight. I would imagine he will be looking for an opportunity to get out there after the season is over.

  • More realistic scenario just might be as this season nears the end that SOUTH CAROLINA is the school that will be taking a LONG and SERIOUS look as Rich Rod!!!  The tenure of Frank Beamer's son in Columbia, SC, is wearing very thin and getting more shaky with each passing week!!!

  • I wanted Rich Rod when we hired the current Marshall beater.

I would love to get Rich Rod next year.

Coming from someone who lives in SC and works in the public around a ton of Carolina fans, you're way off on this. I've yet to talk to anyone who is ready to send him packing. They absolutely love Shane in South Carolina. The only people who hate him are Clemson fans.

You realize that he makes 50K more a year than Huff, correct? Also J State may have a smaller stadium, but it's also very nice and state of the art compared to our cracked concrete dirty paradise with metal piss troughs. Bigger is not always better (that's what she said). They even have student housing built into the stadium.

Yes, I am aware of the money situation. On that front it would definitely be a lateral move, but there are some factors I would add to my thoughts:

    1. Does Jacksonville State have an indoor practice facility that compares to ours?

    2. JSU Stadium doesn't impress me. I've seen it. The hybrid football stadium/student housing doesn't impress me any. Their press box looks really nice though.

    3. Their overall fan support will never exceed ours IF we are winning.

    4. Playing is CUSA is not exactly the place to be. Coming to the SBC where you don't have to play an entire month of Tuesday/Wednesday games would be a benefit. Also, it would be much easier to reach the CFP through the best dang G5 in the land. Much harder to do it through CUSA just due to the lack of respect the league will always have to battle.

    5. Rod is from WV and if you look at a lot of his staff, they are from WV too. It's not outlandish to think they he would want to come back home, even if it is to a different part of the state.

So lets give him a 100k more than Huff. He's a proven winner. Also I wouldn't call J State's Stadium State of the Art. It is not nicer than ours. I agree with you that ours isn't great...but ours is much nicer.

I mean come on...this is not nicer than ours... https://www.google.com/maps/@33.8203681,-85.7663117,3a,75y,333.75h,86.69t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1sAF1QipPsN8xiz8xkUv9H3i51HYm1GNQgWshWnEtalNpB!2e10!3e11!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipPsN8xiz8xkUv9H3i51HYm1GNQgWshWnEtalNpB%3Dw203-h100-k-no-pi0-ya343.1005-ro0-fo100!7i6080!8i3040?entry=ttu

Also look across the street from the Stadium looks just like Huntington. That is the biggest challenge in finding a coach IMO...getting one to live in Huntington...in this specific case...it's not going to be a shock to the system for Rich Rod from where he currently is (then add in the fact he's lived in WV before).

After looking at their stadium and the surrounding area...I feel even better about this...

  • Rich Rod is our answer.  Imagine if we hired Rich Rod and Cole won the starting QB job.  Stadium would be rocking every week because fans would have hope?

  • I'd take RR in a heartbeat. I didn't realize the money situation though. Knowing that he's basically making the same, I can't see it happening. He's winning now and likely will get hired by a P5 with another year of winning. Maybe even after this year. Why start over and risk failing if the money is the same? He can get hired by a P5 from JState just as easy as he could from Marshall.

I agree. If we could get RR it would be a no brainer. There is zero doubt he would have Marshall back on top.

That is a valid point. My only counter to this would be the fact that he is 60 years old. That is a big old for P5's to come calling especially when they CAN get better candidates that don't come with baggage. We don't have that luxury here. IMO, his next stop will be his last. I'm sure he would love that last stop to be WVU, but that ship has sailed and he knows it. This maybe his last chance to finish up at home.

  • And he may not come but we should ask and find out. Nobody but him knows if he will or not. But until you ask, you will never know. And if he doesn't, you move ahead and find the next hot offensive mind.

Yeah, and the ones in SC who "absolutely love" Shane are the same ones who are perfectly SATISFIED with the COCKS being absolutely irrelevant and just a run of the mill afterthought in the grand scheme of SEC football!!

You know, Hillbilly, just like all those in and around Huntington and Marshall basketball who are just so enamored with Danny D'Antoni and his middle of the pack, average to mediocre HERD team year in and year out in whatever conference we are in at the time!!!

Agree with the Stadium/Housing facility.  It probably is just a "space-saving factor".  I believe that Eastern KY U. did about the same thing with their football stadium a few decades or so ago and we can see how it has just helped the Colonels football just absolutely FLOURISH ever since!!

If Rich Rod was/is a legit candidate would should hire immediately.  You can tie in moral clauses and such into your contract(like every coach contract in america) if your worried about him messing up.  Dude is a straight up winner.
