  • He wasn't a great coach, but I could at least trust and respect him. He wouldn't blame his losses on the kids.

  • Three years ago I said, be careful what you ask for.  And here we are.

Doc isn?t a good coach.  But he isn?t terrible.  And at Marshall, choices are severely limited by lack of resources.  Such is life.  Go get a cheap D2 winner.

  • Not me. Football and basketball need to look forward and not back. Just get the right coach and don't settle for less. Doc and Huff are both bad coaches.

  • Doc wasn't awful, he was unspectacular, couldn't win the big games, and had this team on a 7-5/8-4 treadmill in the worst FBS conference in the country.

A change needed to be made because the program was stale.  Now it isn't just stale, it's moldy.

There's got to be a successful OC in the P5s looking to go HC.

  • The Doc Holiday era was not good and helped expand the program deficit.  Do was a lousy head coach. I did not think I could like one less, but Huff is tied and they are bottom of the barrell with Snyder alongside.
I don't like to lose, and that isn't so much because it is just a football game, but because defeat means the failure to reach your objective. I don't want a football player who doesn't take defeat to heart, who laughs it off with the thought, 'Oh, well, there's another Saturday.' The trouble in American life today, in business as well as in sports, is that too many people are afraid of competition. The result is that in some circles people have come to sneer at success if it costs hard work and training and sacrifice.- Knute Rockne

Yeah, I don't miss him either.  We missed, suck it up and rub our necks and write the buyout check.  Time to move on.

  • Yep, Doc would hmmm and haw as briefly as possible in postgame, and most other, interviews, basically throw out a lot of short cliches and coach speak, hoping to quickly get said interviews over!!  Huff, on the other hand, relishes the sound of his own voice, and would incessantly expound on why the players failed to execute, and the players did/did not do this and that, etc., etc., etc.!!

  • Doc lost control of the team - two different times. Recruited some guys with issues.

Heck, at least Snyder kept Huntington stocked with Vodka, which was needed watching his teams and management.

  • I can?t believe how I thought Huff was the right guy. Remember the film clip on the night he arrived with him walking out into the Joan. All gas and no brakes sounded like the opposite of Gomer err Doc. I actually fell for his line of bull and began to trust the process until I didn?t..

Snyder had talent as well. This is the most incompetent staff we have ever had. Just a very poor choice by Ferrell and the BOG.

Heck, Lambert could have assembled a better staff.

From what I understand Jerry Gilbert is the reason that we have Huff. He overruled the search committee.

  • I don't miss Doc, but he was actually better than Huff imo.

This is life in the G5. Keep coaches 3-5 years at most. They either move on because we are winning championships or we fire them because they aren't.

It's time to fire Huff and try again.

Yep, I think most of us said that if Huff hadn't been hired away after 3-4 years then our coaching search had failed. Don't renew his contract and go hire someone else. Next man up.

No more on the job training.  Couldn't agree more, time to hire smartly and not get caught up if a coach comes from a P5 school or not.

  • Doc was not a bad coach.  He just was not a great coach, and for as long as he had the program he should have had us at a much higher level in the crap conference we were in.  Huff came with high accolades, seemed to win the players over at first, but he simply is not the answer.  He cannot put together a plan that is sustainable through the season and puts all his eggs into beating the P5 game on the schedule.  He also takes zero ownership and just throws players under the bus.  None of which are characteristics of a true leader.

  • The problem with Doc he wasn't worth the money we paid him. For the money MU gave him, we should have hired a better coach. Plus he had the worst blowout loses at The Joan.

  • Snyder, Doc and Huff they all suck(ed). Marshall can do so much better!

It's time to clean out the football staff and start fresh.

Legg and Trickett need to be 1 and 2 out the door after the Huffster.
