  • Snyder, Doc and Huff they all suck(ed). Marshall can do so much better!

It's time to clean out the football staff and start fresh.

Legg and Trickett need to be 1 and 2 out the door after the Huffster.

Agreed! And I certainly don't miss Holliday. I miss coaches like Chaump, Donnan and Pruett.

  • Well, Trickett, Legg and Doc all had wvu connections. Anyone see a tread there? We have had some of the worst coaching hires in football and basketball in the last 20-30 years. In football we hire a coach who was never a coordinator and a high school basketball coach with no college experience. We have had poor leadership from MU officials over the years. Hopefully Smith will right the ship.

  • If we had kept Doc the talent level would have been much better.  Huff has not brought in very much talent or developed the talent he has.  Huff also did a terrible job of hiring assistants and even lost our good Oline coach in the middle of last season.

We don't have much to hold on to as far as hope for the future.  It is clear now is the time to let Huff go.  Only have to pay h for 1 season and that is a small price to pay.

Not sure about that, Doc couldn't win in CUSA so he would have gotten killed in the SBC where the talent and coaching level is much better than CUSA. Doc was the only winning MU football coach not to be hired away by a larger program. That is all you need to know about him.

Huffs best players are mostly Doc guys and Huff has been here 3 years.  Do you see anything that Huff has coming back to excite you for next year?

  • Doc had the 10th rated class in CUSA his last season and 96th nationally. Unless he was an ace in the transfer portal the talent does not look like it would have been better.

A lot of our "best" players are not at the same talent level of most SBC team's players. It will be interesting to see how many of MU players make the SBC all conference team. That should settle that argument.

I am not a fan of Huff or Dan. Dan has under performed for years and it looks bad for Huff.

Why even bring up Doc? He was awful. Go look at the worst beatings we ever took at the Joan. Why not just say move on from Huff? They both are awful. Doc had trouble beating a new football program Charlotte. Doc had a treasure playing in the worst conference and still couldn't get it done. Find an offensive mind to get us back to what made us great. We have tried 3 straight conservative coaches and all 3 sucked!!!

  • From what I've seen things aren't rosy at Colorado so Sean Lewis might be a possibility. If he can turn Kent State around and win there I know that with the resources that MU has he could win here. Rich Rod I'm not a fan of and that has nothing to do with him being from WVU. I've just always thought he was one of those coaches who is slimy.

  • Sean Lewis would kill it here. It seems he is having a little bit of trouble working with Coach Prime so he could be looking for a ticket out of town. The problem is I figure a P5 school will snatch him up as OC.

There is always hope he just wants to run his own program again. He has already coached and recruited in this region, and Marshall could give him more resources than Kent State ever could.

I had ask on one of the pay boards when the search was being conducted last time about Lewis. The only response was from a mod that said, "It was very odd, his agent contacted Marshall about the job and then neither his agent or him would respond back to us".

That is odd. I wonder with us having different leadership this time would make a difference with him and his agent.

  • Ugh. This again. If Huff leaves on his own, or is fired, I?d like us to focus on getting the best head coach we can instead of daydreaming about a bad one.

I don't know, but that's a good thought. Also, I heard our search committee was gamed to hire Lambert last time and ended up being overruled by Gilbert. It honestly sounds like a complete mess. Who's to say that the people we had in place never even contacted him back, and just said that his agent wouldn't respond back. It really wouldn't surprise me.

Things would be different this time around for sure with Brad Smith and Spears at the helm. Spears is also an old MAC guy at Eastern Michigan. He ma already be familiar with Lewis.

Oh I agree, get the best coach possible. I just prefer to get a guy that has been a HC prior to coming here and has proven to run a high powered offense.

    Sean Lewis
    Rich Rod

Those are guys we could realistically get that are proven FBS coaches, but I am open to FCS  or even DII. The next hire really needs to be or have been a head coach before though.

  • Doc was not a bad coach.  He just was not a great coach,

Doc showed us he didn't even know the rules of the game. And punting from the 30-35 multiple times in his  tenure ? Please. That poutie made sure he won just enough to keep his job and the CUSA League Office happy.

he won't get anyone proven w/o an extension.  only coaches that he'd be able to get are unemployed w/o other opts & lower level coaches that just couldn't turn down the huge bump in pay.

  • From what I understand Jerry Gilbert is the reason that we have Huff. He overruled the search committee.

  • Successful FCS coach with good O and D

That successful record and performance at a lower, like FCS, level isn't always a good or accurate barometer.

The previous HC before the current coach at JMU, believe his name is "Houston", had a highly successful tenure in Harrisonburg, including, IIRC, a FCS National Championship.  He is now at East Carolina, in 3rd or perhaps 4th season, and the Pirates are currently something like 1-7 and pretty much in the basement of the AAC!

Let's be honest, there are no gaurantees.  Huff seemed like a good hire.  Hit or miss!
