Last season we were a 2 point underdog when we hosted App State last season and they weren't first place at the time.

  • I imagine you'd have to go back to C-USA 2.0 for a similar combination of tough strength-of-schedule and poor Marshall football.

  • I will be there Saturday just because but it doesn?t feel like I?m going to see a football game. Not much football happening on our side of the ball. Offense literally can?t play. It?s like going to a concert with no music.

  • What are the odds we hire a coach with nearly zero experience and qualifications to be a head coach?
Oh yea, last time. The Huffster.

Ok, not including the last time?
Oh uh, the one before Huff. The Doc.

Surely not three in a row? No way. Right?

What are the odds we see the same offensive game plan this week?

Huff was an Associate Head Coach at both Mississippi State and Alabama.  Never a coordinator.  Associate Head Coaches generally have some autonomy and are involved in coaching tactics/strategy, recruiting, budget management, staff oversight, and etc.  The AHC is also generally the go to person when the HC is away.  It may be a bit unfair to say Huff has no qualifications or experience to be HC but, I get the point you are trying to make.  Huff has never proven himself as an offensive or defensive coordinator.

Remember when Bob Pruett wanted to be Marshall's Head Coach after Chaump left.  Jim Donnan was hired.  The MU brass told Pruett that if he had coordinator experience he would have been hired.  So, Pruett goes off and is hired as the defensive coordinator at Florida.  After Donnan moved on, Marshall kept their word and hired Pruett.  Obviously, that decision worked out very well!

  • I just don't understand what the leadership is thinking. We went from a tragedy to a rebuilding, making a name for ourself, creating a brand, all within 26 years. From there it was a steady rise with winning programs, National Championships and national attention until BPs abrupt departure. That's where the confusing downfall starts. How did we fall so far where as long as we get to a bowl that mediocrity is accepted? They've done a TREMENDOUS job of alienating and placating the fanbase with empty promises. We have state of the art indoor facilities as well as other perks. How many Championships in the last 20 plus years has all those donations and upgrades produced?

  • I think it started with leadership perspective.  KO Marcum giving up on games because we were not a big-time program.  Letting ourselves being perceived as a little sister to WVU.
Excepting mediocrity because we had a smaller budget than someone else.  Also being a slave to a system who rewards the also rans in the big conferences.  We tried to live off our past and not build on it. When you get complacent this happens

Bob Pruett was Defensive Coordinator at Wake Forest from 1985 through 1989.  Pruett was also the Defensive Coordinator and DB coach at Marshall from 1981 through 1982.

Donnan was hired by Marshall in 1990.  The Marshall "brass" knew Pruett had Defensive Coordinator experience before Donnan was hired.
