  • After the win tonight, does a healthy Fancher return and resume his role as starter or has the Pennington 2.0 era officially began?

Not a chance. Wanna know a secret? It wasn't the "injury" that kept him from playing.

Not a chance Fancher takes his job back or not a chance the Pennington era has began?

I edited it after. We won't see fancher again. I'd expect a transfer portal entry before long, not sure he'll be a WR etc here. He had offers to do that elsewhere

  • Young Pennington is a much more effective passer. It helped Ali in the run game. His mistakes were merely freshman mental mistakes and easily fixable. I'm sold, the young Pennington era is here.

  • Both have their limitations. Weird thing is, they're opposites. Neither is great, but don't see a reason to pull Cole without giving him some more snaps.

  • Where I saw the difference was in the effectiveness of the ball fakes. Penny2.0 also dove on the ball twice when we fumbled and not on the exchange. Ali lost one about 5 yards from him and he got to it and secured the ball. Kid has guts and savvy. It looked liked the rest of the team was rejuvenated by the change as well.

  • 75% passing completions, 200 yards, 1 interception which was more the fault of the O-Line than of him and more than made up for by him recovering 2 fumbles, and most of all a win.  Great job for his first game.

  • Hey, many, me included, have been on Huff's case for playing an injured QB and NOT, apparently, having a replacement ready and available.  Can't believe that was all a "ruse".  No player should lose his position based on an injury alone.  If Fancher fully recovers and is able to win back the starting slot based on practice performance, etc., that is a different story/issue.

I also saw better accuracy and timing leading to more opportunities for YAC for our receivers. That is really important for our short passing game (and small but fast receivers) to work the way it is supposed to.

What kept him from playing?  If he's not hurt, shouldn't he have been ready to come in if Cole was injured?  If you know something, just say it.  There's no secrets here 😂

  • I had posted this about Cole Pennington and what a few starters told me last year. So I'm not surprised!

I just ran into a Marshall starting defensive player and we had a good long straight down the pipe talk. We talked about our qb situation, and he told me that Cole Pennington is the real deal! Pennington is running the scout team against the 1's on defense. We talked about our current qb situation with Fancher and he said, Cam is coming along great and getting better each week! We're going to have a real battle for starting qb next season between Cole and Cam should be an interesting season.

  • What did Luke mean when he said Cam and Cole exchanged words before the game? Was it a good or bad exchange?

Pretty sure he meant words of encouragement from Cam to Cole.  Saw Cam taking to Cole almost every time he came off the field.

  • Lol, I can guarantee you that Fancher's injury is 100% legit and it actually explains a lot about his performance in recent weeks.

That being said, there's no turning back from Cole now.

  • Unpopular opinion coming but...

I didn't see Cole as being head and shoulders above what a healthy Fancher was at the beginning of the season. Was he better than the last 4 games Fancher, yes, but that isn't hard to do. The offense stayed the same with the dink and dunk stuff, but at least Cole did managed to make the easy throws that Fancher hasn't been able to do lately.

His arm strength doesn't wow me and we have yet to see him prove he can push the ball down the field. That's not 100% on him due to the play calling, but there were a couple throws that had me holding my breath when he did try to throw it a little deeper, one should have been picked.

We have to hold him accountable for turnovers just like we would any other quarterback. I realize some of these aren't his fault (like the first INT tonight and the one that bounced off the WR hands at Coastal), but he has 2 fumbles and a pick so far that are on him. This may get a lot better after he has had as many starts as Fancher under his belt though. There just isn't any substitute for game experience.

I also have to give him credit for recovering 2 fumbles tonight. Those were huge plays and very heads up from him diving on those balls. I'm pretty sure Fancher wouldn't have done that.

I came away neither impressed or disappointed with Cole. I'm just not sold he is a QB that can lead us to a playoff appearance in the future. Just so I'm clear, I want nothing more than Cole to be another version of Chad and will be rooting for him to do so. I'll be curious to see what happens the rest of the season.

We will never make the playoff so that ship has sailed.  Fancher is for all intents and purposes a 2 year starter at this point. We know his skill set and it isn?t improving. Pennington should atleast be given a shot. I think that?s all anyone is really saying

  • Big difference I saw was
    a) Cole hit WRs in stride allowing them to gain additional yards.
     B) Cole is a leader. Talking to the guys before they go into the field giving them the Ra ra speech.  Also by diving on those 2 fumbles it?s apparent Cole wants to win.

To me Cam is just worried about doing his job only because he?s a square peg in a round hole.  Where Cole is a QB that has those little intangibles. Because of this one is trying not to screw up and the other is just playing football.
