  • Having secured an automatic bid to a 5th straight NCAA tournament, the Herd's soccer team now waits until 1 PM tomorrow to see its bracket and certain #1 seed.

Think about that for a minute--5 straight NCAA tournaments.  We haven't known success like this since I-AA football in the 90s.  The difference here is that we are playing the biggest schools in the nation.

I'm so looking forward to the selection.  Very interested to see who will be in our bracket.  Usually the NCAA tries to regionally group teams to cut down on travel.  But they also try to spread out conference teams, so it's doubtful UK or WVU or UCF will be in our bracket.

I think the Sunbelt will have 4 teams with UK sliding in as one of the last picks.  Looks like the AAC will also have 4.  ACC will have 9.  And the Big Ten might only get 1 :)

  • They'd be smart to place us and WVU in opposite brackets hoping we both make it to Louisville and play there.

We've ranked every week since November 2019 I think.

My son and I were just talking about this. WVU is really good. How fun would it be to see another winner take all rematch!

  • Anything can happen in the tournament, as was evidenced today in several conference finals.

Unranked Charlotte beat No. 2 SMU in the AAC final.

No. 3 Georgetown lost to unranked Xavier on PKs in the Big East final. (Marshall beat Xavier 3-0 earlier in the season.)

No. 14 Clemson beat No. 7 UNC on PKs in the ACC final.

Let's hope for some good fortune for the Herd in the Big Dance!

  • ACC will have 9

That's really dumb.  I know they are a really good soccer league, but they are not 9 deep.  There are teams that will be left out for the 9th place ACC team.  They do that same crap in basketball.  And a team like JMU or UK gets left out because of it.  I think Clemson, Pitt, UNC, 'Cuse, and Notre Dame are about where the line should be.  Who else and why?
