  • 1. If you told me we'd score 82 and lose by 36, I'd say you were crazy. Yet, we just set records for most points in a half given up in rupp arena history and coach cals most points scored in a game. Embarrassing.

    2. Dan always talks about recruiting kids that will represent marshall well, etc, nice kids. Enough of that. The UK kid they interviewed could barely speak in complete sentences, but he scores 26 points. We need to recruit dogs. Guys that don't get stripped with two hands on the ball under the rim. Guys that want to compete and aren't gonna let you take wide open 3s all game. Guys that are gonna get on their teammates to pick it up. We need competitors. We don't have any right now, other than Martin that I see on this team. Dan smiling and shaking hands after the game... how the hell are you smiling after such an embarrassment.

    3. I see absolutely no way, you turn this pile of dung into a team that can win this conference. I had so much hope after the first game. We really had energy, and effort and looked like a team that would play with tenacity, and all of that is gone. I haven't seen it since that first game.

    4. I am about as disgusted as I've ever been as a Marshall fan. Did i expect us to win at Rupp, no. But i expected us to not be a national embarrassment, and to see Dan smiling after it really pisses me off.

Dan has objectively been the best coach in the past 4 decades. He took us to a level we haven't seen in 4 decades, and won our first tourney game. That is a special memory I'll never forget.

But the game has passed him by. It's time to hang it up. He does not have the balls or the energy to coach effectively anymore and he needs to step down with grace. It should be announced before the end of the season so we can all get behind his swan song and he can leave with some dignity and we can start a coaching search early.

  • Good post. I just can't take Dans cocky, everything is ok attitude. He coaches like he has Smith and Spears in his back pocket. And Martin does give us something around the basket on offense we haven't had. But him and Conner are horrible defenders. They got beat multiple times that were embarrassing. Anyone that watched that game wouldn't think we were awful talent wise but they would think we are horribly coached. Defense looked like a black top game with guys always out of position. No adjustments at all and a coaching staff that looked like fans in the stands.

  • GUYS, Danny is SMILING because he is having FUN!!!!

FUN is what it is all about is what he has been preaching ALL ALONG!!  Some of you obviously HAVE NOT been listening!!!

Why wouldn't Danny SMILE A LOT???  Good solid 6 figure salary!  NO PRESSURE, NO EXPECTATIONS from and by his higher ups, bosses, etc.!!!  Heck, is there any reason WHY Danny should NOT STAND for long periods of times along the HERD Bench during MU games, arms folded, motionless as a wooden Indian, with either a Blank stare on his face, or else his version of MAD Magazine Alfred E. Newman's "What Me Worry?" look??

  • We will not be a .500 club this year. Those who think we can make a run in the SBC tournament, tell me how we will be JMU.

Ironically enough, I believe bust is the only 1 that believes DD will make an SBC tourney run.

  • Just a note, Huck and Jones both in the last 4 decades, both way better. I?m not sure Dan is even better than Herrion. At least he recruited men, a lot of them mentally unstable, but men none the less. We are playing college ball with kids that are physically and athletically overmatched against every D1 team we play.

If Jon Elmore hadn?t fallen in his lap through no recruiting effort of his own, Dan would essentially be on par with Jirsa and Freeman.  This team couldn?t win an AAU tournament playing teams with 2-3 legit D1 prospects.  Dan gets about one legit player every two years it seems and his style wins nothing at this level.

You can't play the "what if" recruiting game. That can be said for everyone. Huck was a cheater, and Jones did nothing here but play super weak ooc schedules. Herrion sucked all around once Jones recruits were gone.

Tough to argue against a guy that won our first cusa conference title and ncaa game with as many 20 win seasons as anyone else has had, basically and covid screwing up what could have been a really strong year with 5 losses i think

It's time for him to go, but I'll never pretend he was some awful coach because he isn't. He brought us 4 top 10 and our best 2 all time players that were a joy to watch.

Banker, I would probably rate Greg White as a better recruiter than Danny.  Maybe not as good a bench coach perhaps, but will probably end up with a higher overall W-L record!!  Unless DD goes on a miraculous winning streak this season and then significantly upgrades the caliber of his recruiting thereafter, for whatever tenure he has remaining.

Good for Dan that he didn?t have to beat Memphis and that group to get to the tourney I guess.  The fact that he never got a regular season crown and only one tourney crown ?with our 2 best all time players? says a lot about his coaching ability.  The fact that he can?t win the conference with 2 first team all conference players and the freshman of the year also points to his weakness.

You can try to dress it up all you want.

Well that explains why he doesn't do anything during games, he would rather watch during the games instead.

Was 1 game away dude. We were actually a final shot away too in a game earlier that year. It is what it is. We didn't execute and get it done. Fact remains, only one to win since the mid 80's and that was a cheating head coach.

Someone said DD is the best coach in 40 years and others mentioned Huck and Jones. No one mentioned these two. That's why I said what I did.

I know they weren't here long, but I think if you listed all Marshall's coaches over the past 40 years, most people would rank these 1 & 2.

  • That ?I don?t watch the other team? is an example of not putting in the work. Either that or he knows it doesn?t matter because he doesn?t know how to adjust anyway.  I mean how do you have any idea how to play defense if you don?t know to shade left or right of the other team?s point guard?  How do you run an offense without knowing your opponents soft spots?

A real coach focuses on these things. They have their boards before the game reminding players of things like ?remember you have to make 23 go left? or ?when 12 comes in you can?t let me set up in the right corner?. Hell, scouting is half the game.

Best players is a stretch, too.  Most points? Sure.  But anyone with any sense knows that's because of the fast pace play he's been trying to do this whole time.  Teams that played us also got a lot more points for their guys because they had a lot more possessions and we aren't great on defense most years.  the points are a product of the style more than the player.  Especially earlier in his tenure when he really pushed that style.  Some people just weren't around for Jeff Battle, Skip Henderson, John Taft, etc.  Guys that got points without fast break dumping threes.  They took it to the rim and had the muscle to get through defenses and the speed to go around them.
