  • That ?I don?t watch the other team? is an example of not putting in the work. Either that or he knows it doesn?t matter because he doesn?t know how to adjust anyway.  I mean how do you have any idea how to play defense if you don?t know to shade left or right of the other team?s point guard?  How do you run an offense without knowing your opponents soft spots?

A real coach focuses on these things. They have their boards before the game reminding players of things like ?remember you have to make 23 go left? or ?when 12 comes in you can?t let me set up in the right corner?. Hell, scouting is half the game.

But Danny has been like a broken record while at MU constantly stating that it is all about "what we do" and not "what the opponent does".  Doubt if he even knows when the other team, for example, switches from a man to man D to a Zone.  Unless, of course, when one of his assistants jabs him with an elbow.  Explains why, IMO, MU is always so slow to react and adapt to changes made by the opponent during the games.  Can't do if your head coach cannot recognize and quickly adapt/react when opponents make in game changes, offensively, defensively, etc.

  • I think we all agree it's time for Dan to step down but that will not happen for one reason or another. There isn't a way of fixing this team, so this year is going to be rough.

You would think that him and his brother would have the ability to rub elbows with the movers and shakers and cobble some NIL money together. At least enough to go get some decent guards who honestly should love playing in his system.

I look at this team and I see chaos. They just don't fit with one another with how Dan has them. Moving forward and hopefully to salvage a .500 season, Ryan Nutter needs to be the PG from here on out and Move Conner back to the 3 or whatever he was last year. Maybe that's what is still playing but it seems like he was brining the ball up a lot last night. I think we have a few good players in Nutter, Martin, and Obinna. But that isn't enough to get to the top of the SBC.

Just very disappointing. This staff can't miss on this next freshman class if we fans are forced to have DD hanging around indefinitely.

  • DD definitely has to go after this season. Most people on this board predicted a terrible season and it?s looking like that prediction is coming true. I?m guessing his family?s donations and his sister?s position on the BOG is what?s thwarting his removal. Like Doc, and hopefully Huff, empty seats and concession stands full of items no one is buying sends a strong message to the administration.

That is what it will take. Danny worked hard behind the scenes to get the power structure in his favor and now it will be tough. He is also adamant about leaving the job to one of his assistants when he does decide to leave. I hope we never hire a Marshall guy in either sport again. This is what you end up with. I'll bet Spears is having second thoughts about taking this job now. He is in a mess with both sports. And especially basketball. Either you get rid of a Dantoni and make a legendary family mad or you allow them to keep running things. And Danny isn't going to ever back down because he thinks he knows it all.

  • Curfman got caught down low numerous occasions. It would be nice if Dan coached during the game.

Calipari had to be laughing that Dan was switching everything. Good thing they had 3 seven footers out.

  • Some may be forgetting in the past 40 years we've had Dana Altman and Billy Donovan.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

While both are great coaches with great resumes. Unfortunately, neither were here long enough to actually build any type of lasting impact on Herd hoops. Altman was here just a year going 15-13 and Donavon was here as the head man for 2 years and had 2 pretty good seasons 18-9 in his 1st season & 17-11 in his second.

Had either been here for just a few more years our NCAA tourney draught would not have lasted 30+ years.

  • What sucks is DD could be successful if he would stop being so soft and embrace the portal.

  • What sucks is DD could be successful if he would stop being so soft and embrace the portal.

I mean 3 out of the starting 5 are from the portal, and our top 4 out of 8 players are from the portal as well; don't think the portal is the issue.

Dans problem is roster management (not getting rid of the players that aren't D1). When something happens to the top players, there is no one behind them to fill. I mean we do not have a PG outside of the potential of Nutter.

Doesn't focus on defense or rebounding. Dans defense is pressing and creating turnovers for transition points. When that doesn't work, has no idea how to modify during the game. When he talks about defense he never mentions schemes or the technical things needed, just blames it that players weren't tough (which is true, thanks to the finesse style and the next paragraph below).

Doesn't put an emphasis on strength and conditioning. We had people post on other boards from the S&C team that Dan wants them focused on cardio for the players. Compared the basketballs workouts to the Cross Country teams (awesome they have sub 30 5k times, wtf is that going to do for basketball).

He wants to have tall and coordinated players that can shoot, but his system only works if he has guards that can create for themselves and others. We have shooters, but they always have a person in front of them, need that person to drive and kick.

It's a cluster of different issues, but Dan only cares about a week in March for all the stars to align and a couple of players playing crazy good.

He has definitely been successful here. However, we could have been dominant if he did those things. I agree.

  • Well we know our next opponent Miami Ohio is really bad. They are losing to St Bonaventure  46-18 at halftime.

  • We know there is no D in Antoni. Nutter looked like a solid competitor and that?s important at pg.

  • UNCW leading Kentucky 41-33 at half. Amazing what playing defense can do instead of giving up 69 at the half.

But Cal told Danny if Obinna would have played in Caymen, we would have won though!

  • You probably didn?t see UK put 95 on the top 10 ranked Miami and win by 20+.

Here is the post I wrote when someone else brought up the Miami game. Our lost to UK was beyond all comprehension. I guess Dan and some of his fans have no pride? Our game with UK should have been ended at halftime if there had been a "mercy rule" in college basketball.

Miami was ranked 8th and UK was ranked 12th. Halftime score was UK 42- Miami 37 and compare that to the MU halftime score 69-41 if you want to compare scores. The final score shows that Miami is 14 points better than MU, sure. UK quite pressing MU and called off the dogs and still beat MU by 36.

Again, we are not relevant in college basketball and Dan can't coach.

And Wilmington, IIRC, is supposed to be in Huntington sometimes this month.  Wonder if DD will watch the UK-Wilmington film and learn anything that he can apply in our game with UNC-W?  Or will it be business as usual for the HERD, with Danny standing like a wooden Indian, arms folded, oblivious to what is occurring on the floor before him, and with that smug, self-satisfied look of "Hey, I coached High School ball for years and years!".

  • The major Wilmington TV station has the news!

UNCW men?s basketball team upsets #12 Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WECT) - The UNC Wilmington men?s basketball team defeated #12 Kentucky Saturday, 80-73. The win marks the Seahawks? first victory against a top-15 opponent in program history.

Senior Trazarien White led the Seahawks with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Donovan Newby added 15 points for UNCW in the upset win at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

According to the program?s records, this is the first time UNCW has defeated a ranked opponent in the regular season. The Seahawks defeated #22 Southern California in the first round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament.

UNCW is now 6-2 through the first eight games of the 2022-23 season. The team?s next game will be at Trask Coliseum in Wilmington against Montreat on Dec. 10.
