  • Don't want to start a thread bashing the young man.  I like Fancher.  He had some games that were hard to watch.  Lots of things contributed to it:  poor OL play, relatively inexperienced as a D1 QB, injuries.  But the first half of the Ark St game, in my mind, shows potential.  He looked poised, fast, got rid of the ball or ran when pressured.  Threw some nice down the field balls.  I thought that was the best half of football he's played for us. I'm not writing him off just yet.  I'd certainly like to see someone push him but I'm still bullish on Cam.  What's everyone else's take?

  • I think with some OL help and an OC that knows how to use him, he could be pretty good.

You think the first half vs Ark St was just luck?  I agree he hasn't shown that he can bring us a title but he's had flashes of athleticism, poise and command of the O.  I'm not forgetting about some of the dreadful performances either.  I just think he has shown "potential".  Hell, I don't know what to think......

  • I want to see some QBs brought in and a legit QB competition.  It is not a good idea to gamble another season on whether Fancher will improve enough to get us where we want to be.  Tired of watching other G5 programs (Coastal) second team QB out perform our first team QB and other G5 programs (JMU) finding QBs in the transfer portal that out perform our first team QB.

If Fancher comes out on top then fine, but I don't want it to be because our coaches were to lazy on the recruiting trail to find and bring in some quality QBs.

  • Fancher had one heck of a HALF.  Not saying he is good or bad, but at the moment he has way more bad halfs of football than good. Ark st defense is just bad, but with the right oline and OC he could probably be an average QB.

  • Fancher's 21 points against Ark State would be more impressive if AS hadn't given up nearly 80 points the previous weekend to Texas State.  I think Fancher can be effective if he runs the ball, every possession, at least 10-15 times a game.

I don't think he'll hold up physically though.  He'll probably go about 4-5 games, then be down for a few weeks.  The thing is, he's the only QB we have that can operate that scheme, so we'll have to change offensive schemes and game plans when we goes down.

I say bring in a proven passer and have an honest QB competition.  It's not about our feelings or Fancher's feelings or anyone named Pennington's feelings, and most importantly it's not about who is "thought" to give us the best chance to win on paper.  It's who actually leads an effective offense. Who actually throws touchdown passes and completes critical third downs.  The more QBs that we have that can play and pass the ball, the better.

Actually they only gave up 31 to a good Tx St Offense.  They scored 77 though 😳

I believe it was the other way around. Arkansas st put up 77 on Texas St.

  • Don't let 2 quarters of him playing over his head against mediocre competition fool you into this "buying into cam" crap. He isn't good enough. I'm not sure Pennington is either but haven't seen enough yet, but i know fancher isn't the answer.

If he is the starter or even close next year, we're in as much trouble as I knew we would be this season.

  • Fanchers Stats
    61% / 11 pass tds @ 7.0avp / 11 picks / 4 rush tds @ 2.3ypc / multiple fumbles /
So he gets you 6 pts and loses you 6 pts at same rate
This team needs OL play and a rb system of multiple game changing Rbs & a WR that requires a double team & a TE that is a threat to move chains & score.
Fancher gets all of this his stats will improve. He needs an offense like Cato had.  But Fancher faces far different competition than Cato.

Funny how you always show up to attack a QB and coach that went .500 but never a peep out of you on a team that is .333 ?

also, totally ignores the fact Fancher was hurt during the stretch of poor offense, losses etc.

I definitely think he needs to improve or we need an upgrade, but if you objectively watched the season and aren't trying to prove you have a correct opinion, you conclude a healthy Fancher gave us the best chance to win and we did have success when he was healthy.  those are the facts.

  • If Fancher were a great passer, he'd be a top QB at our level, maybe even desired by P5s. Will he get better putting the ball in the air to the right place, who knows. But if he does, watch out everyone he plays. Of course that also means he has the "right places" to throw the ball.

I agree. If he can get better throwing the 20+ pass in the offseason then look out. He has command of the offense and is a real threat with his legs if used right. If we get a better QB fine but I haven't gave up on him yet because some improvement and he could be a good one.

  • Fancher is not a durable QB. He gets hurt a lot, and if he plays hurt, he's not effective. It sucks that the Rice transfer QB didn't work out. Huff needs to bring in another QB that can play when Fancher is not available.

Huff needs to bring in other quarterbacks that are better than Fancher the day they step foot on campus.  Have a legit QB competition.  If Fancher improves and finishes the competition on top then great.  If not, let the better QB play and we have created some depth at the QB position in the event someone gets hurt or hits the transfer portal.  Gambling that Fancher improves or recruiting QBs that are as good as Fancher is now does not help us get where we need to be.

  • Sorry about that score, I was going off memory.  So who did Arkansas State beat?  A couple 6-6 teams, FCS and bottom dwellers?  Team that played 12 games and had 1-2 decent wins and blew 6 games to decent opponents are not feathers in our cap normally.  Yeah when we are searching for anything positive at all, beating a 6 win team with 4 of them being trash wins, might be cause for celebration.

The fastest way to fix our offense is to have Fancher and another dual threat qb, be QB1 and 2.  Have the quarterbacks back run the ball 15-20 times a game, that way the Oline won't have to pass block 45 times a game.  They can focus on run blocking and make things simple.  Pass the ball about 20 times a game.

It really doesn't matter what we think in the end.  I say we could probably win 7- 8 games with Fancher next year and finish 3rd in the East, no way we beat the better defenses in the Sunbelt with a rag tag Oline and Ethan Payne as a feature back.
