  • The forced benching thing was total BS.

Yup.  That nugget came from a dude on here who claims he gets inside scoop no one else is privy to.  😂.  He missed the mark on that one.

  • Bop is correct, Fancher seems to get injuried a lot, which shouldn't be surprising.

So even if he improves as a passer, there's a good chance that another midseason Coach Process cratering will occur, unless a backup that is a dual threat emerges. Getting that back up that can challenge for the starting spot has to be a priority.

  • Don't want to start a thread bashing the young man.  I like Fancher.  He had some games that were hard to watch.  Lots of things contributed to it:  poor OL play, relatively inexperienced as a D1 QB, injuries.  But the first half of the Ark St game, in my mind, shows potential.  He looked poised, fast, got rid of the ball or ran when pressured.  Threw some nice down the field balls.  I thought that was the best half of football he's played for us. I'm not writing him off just yet.  I'd certainly like to see someone push him but I'm still bullish on Cam.  What's everyone else's take?

It has to be remembered that Ark State's defense is one of the 2 or 3 worst in the SBC.

  • The one thing I noticed last game is that our receivers were aggressive and actually made tough catches.  For the most part Fancher appeared to have his accuracy?s in check.  Even when forced out of bounds our receivers made some tough catches.  Pleasant surprise !

Should stick with urinal analysis and nailing two boards together. #footballkaren

  • Fancher can be anything we need him to be.  He just can't do it by himself.  He's not that guy that makes things happen all on his own like some QBs we've had in the past.  In the right system he could be very effective as teams have to respect his ability to take off in an instant.  I hope he gets the chance, but I'm ok if we find a pure passer and actually throw the ball more, too.

    Green Dog nailed it.
Fancher has good moments, but is inconsistent.

  • He's apparently the best in the room this year. But... now way you go into 2024 with him set as your starter. Hit the portal hard for a couple guys and let them compete.

Not only did he claim to know Huff was forced to bench Cam, prior to the season starting he assured us Huff would be gone at the end of the season, no matter what.  Now only way Huff leaves is by choice for a better offer. (not likely)

Seems to me his inside knowledge is full of something else that occurs in rooms with urinals.

  • Only at Marshall does a guy play like crap for nearly two years (to the level of one of if not THE worst starting QB we've had here in 40 years) then plays good for a "half" against Ark St (who most people don't even know exists) and herd fans are now "bullish" on him. Ugh, what? Our pride and expectations couldn't get lower.

He had many more good games than one half against stAte.  He had a great game vs NCState.  Orchestrated the comeback vs ODU.  Kept us in front of VT long enough to eek out the win (who is bowl eligible, btw).  Moved the offense for 21 points in 5 minutes to beat ECU soundly.  Something happened after NCState and it was easy to see there was a difference, whether it was oline or injury or someone kidnapped his dog and told him to lose, I don't know.  But something was different.  He looked more like his old self against stAte than something we hadn't seen before.  And it would have been a whole game if Huff hadn't pulled the plug on winning and played not to lose.

But hey at least we know Ali wont be transferring to Notre Dame since he's Muslim and can't play there.  Your opinions mean very little here.

  • Fancher reminds me of Bernie Morris who became a decent QB as a senior.  His passing was inconsistent and he had good speed. The game has changed a little since Bernie's time, but he kicked around in AFL for a long time and still does QB workshops.

  • A HC philosophy with recruiting should always be recruit to move my starters to 2nd string.  Yes - it can hurt players feelings and backfire rarely but it?s how it is done to win, sustain and build.  So Huff should be recruiting to replace Fancher and everyone else who is 1st string unless you have Randy Moss & Chad Pennington.

Pruett recruited Bernie.  Said best Qb physically we have signed. If Pruett had stayed senior year Morris would have played like that Soph year.  Pruetts staff could develop Qbs

I'm actually flattered you keep bringing that speculation I made up. Because that's all you have. I've been right about everything else. I love the fact you can only go back to 1 singular thing in my over 2800 posts. I think we are all free to speculate, actual reporters even made it sound like he was out for religious reasons (so I am not the only one)...but I've been 100% right on everything I've evaluated (not speculated) in all sports across the board. Big difference. You are wrong all the time miss, but if bringing up Ali makes you feel better continue to do it. I'm flattered.

You deserve a QB like Fancher...you really do. Keep defending suck. You can cherry pick a game, a quarter, a "half" here and there...but he's been our worst QB we've had here in 40 years and it's not even close. You look silly defending him. And you and others take the expectations of the fan base to new lows. You're defending a guy that wouldn't start for 99% of FBS and 50% of FCS.

This sums up our fanbase..."bullish" on suck. We are "bullish" on suck. Embarrassing.

  • also, totally ignores the fact Fancher was hurt during the stretch of poor offense, losses etc.

I definitely think he needs to improve or we need an upgrade, but if you objectively watched the season and aren't trying to prove you have a correct opinion, you conclude a healthy Fancher gave us the best chance to win and we did have success when he was healthy.  those are the facts.
When Fancher was healthy, he did play well against an average team.  He has plenty to improve on, but we also have to place some of the poor offensive performances on the poor OL play and the real lack of consistency of the entire WR corps in catching balls.

Just my opinion, as a unit the OL was our biggest failure this season, followed closely by the lack of the WR unit as a whole catching passes and then the sub par QB unit, as a whole.  The coaches for each of those units are now looking for jobs, so MU is hopefully headed in the right direction to correct those units.

This is a team sport and we have many things that need fixed to get out of the cellar of the East division of the SBC.
