  • Also 15 practices usually without them and Huff is primarily focused on recruiting and probably interviewing at any place that invites him.  Thoughts?

we fired 'em b/c they weren't any good.  15 practices w/o bad coaching is a plus, if you ask me.

  • We have SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many other staff members that can / are probably stepping in and coaching as needed. They were pretty good players themselves.  I think we're good.

  • Coaching turnover is also a normal occurrence.  And probably pretty common in the case of 6-6 teams that had higher expectations with clear deficiencies like us.  I don't think it's a big deal.  Making the moves early gives us the most amount of time to find the best replacements we can get.  Basically, at this point, I view getting next year right as more important than winning whatever small bowl we make it to.

If Huff would hire some quality coaches before the bowl game the players could also be missing out on good coaching.  Or if the new OC brings a new offense with him then the players could get a jump start on learning the new offense.

I think at this point, without knowing the opponent, the deck is stacked against us winning a bowl game.  Maybe we will be lucky enough to get an opponent that has more issues than we do.

If I'm Huff and I know my job is secure through next season then I am putting more time and emphasis on recruiting players and coaches than I am bowl prep.  Building toward next year to get either an extension or a new job.  We all know Huff doesn't play for championships, I assume that includes bowl championships.  If Huff wants to "get better" then it is going to start with "better" coaches and recruiting.

Who do you think runs the offense now.  Even if Huff takes it over he has head coaching work to do as well, so who helps or who takes it over?

Personally, I don't think it will work that way. Huff will be the OC for the bowl game, Bartrum will work with OL and Tight Ends, Others shift as necessary.

On defense, I can see them moving someone around to fill in at LB coach, and let Danny Derricott work with the DBs.

Further, there are a lot of Analysts waiting for a chance to do some coaching. They'll probably get some mentoring/coaching chances during the next few weeks with the younger kids; more than usual.

I know nothing, but these are my speculations.

Agree!!  With the ever-growing tendency for Major College programs, including MU< to swell their staffs with an ever-increasing, never-ending bunch of "analysts", who apparently analyze EVERY POSSIBLE ASPECT of the game, including how best to sweep out and clean the post-game locker rooms.

So, here's an excellent opportunity for such folks at MU to get some crucial experience in being more involved in pregame prep and actual bowl game experience and involvement.  Chance to start making their coaching "bones"!

although not currently listed on Herdzone as a coach, there was this....Two well-known former Herd players have joined the program as offensive and defensive analysts: Aaron Dobson and Danny Derricott.

Dobson was a standout wide receiver for the Herd from 2009-12 before being drafted by the New England Patriots in the 2nd round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Derricott shined in the Herd's defensive backfield from 1997-2000 and won four Mid-American Conference championships during his time as Marshall transitioned to FBS.

  • Here is a thought:  Why not just turn down the bowl?  I mean 86 of 133 teams going to bowls?  I see no way MU doesn't lose money and do we really need to "reward" a team with 5 FBS wins that finished 2-6 down the stretch that fired 4 of the 10 on field staff? Work on getting a staff in place and recruiting. my .02

I wonder if conference rules allow a SBC team to decline bowl offers?  Also, as bad as C-USA was they did, in later years, have mechanisms in place that gave teams going to bowls greater shares of the bowl payouts to try to prevent losses in attending bowl games, wonder if SBC does the same?
