  • Bad move other than probably financial package. Tough place to win.

  • Not surprising in one aspect.
He's probably has more recruiting connections in this half of the US.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.

$$$$$  If Allen got a 7 year deal at 4.9 mil a year, Cignetti is probably looking at least a 5 year, 20 million deal to start.  Plus, he's 62.  20 million in 5 years is probably more than double his lifetime income.  Go get paid!!!  I'd agree if this were someone like Huff, who's 40.

Doesn't matter.  62 yrs old.  After 4 years will be ready to retire with a boatload of cash.

Yep.  Known as one of the very top of a list of places where D1 football coaching careers "go to die".!!

  • Since the HERD goes to Harrisonburg next fall, I think that in the spirit of the Holidays HERD fans should invite Mr. Cignetti to take, as they said often on one of those 1960s Sit Coms, perhaps Green Acres, a "heapin helpin" of JMU's returning talent with him to Bloomington!!!

WTG out on a limb there.  If he finished .500 for his career at IU, he'll probably get a statue.  In all honesty, .500 is probably their ceiling.

  • Bad move. Should have held out for a better situation. No chance to do any good at Indiana.

It may have been his only chance to move up since he would 63 at the end of next season. A lot of schools wouldn't interested in hiring a guy with lower level experience and and being older. Maybe he was interested in getting the money? Only MU would hire a senior citizen for a head coaching position.LOL

Plus maybe he thinks he turned it around at IU. I remember discussing with Dan Shoemaker (dshoe) when Parrish left for Kansas State. KSU was about as bad a job as MU at the time. Dan said any coach worth his weight in salt thinks they can win anywhere.

  • JMU QB, Jordan McCloud, also now in the portal. Threw for 3413 yards with 32TDs/9INTs.

I thought he transfers to JMU? Can't you only transfer once without sitting?

He was at USF for three years (redshirted one), Arizona for "two" (he left the team in October), and then JMU for one.

I just assume he's transferring as a graduate transfer. How he has eligibility left? I have no idea.

COVID year from USF and he would have redshirted a year at Arizona since he did not play.

I agree with you flat, I doubt many schools would consider hiring a coach at this age. On Cignetti's part this would appear to be a money deal, Indiana is not going to win in the BIG. They owe their previous coach approximately $18 million in a buyout, some of these ADs are nuts.

all it takes is one multi-millionare or better.  it doesn't matter if the school is a bottom dweller or not.  just think if one person on this board had big-time, liquid assets.  otherwise, Marshall is extremely fortunate to have a coach like Grassie.

to some extent JMU, App, Boise and others at the FCS-to-FBS levels are program builders AND sustainers, like we were at one time.  it's not immposible that Huff could still be the beginning of a new era, but the odds aren't good.

  • Looks like JMU might hire Manny Diaz or Anthony Poindexter both from Penn State.

Poindexter can recruit DMV and Virginia. One of the best.

FYI: A quick google check for fundraising in 2022 has JMU a "" than $10 million; Appy $14 million (athletic Club raised $5.79 million) and Boise State raised $26.1 million.

Boise is at a different level. The city population is now over 235,000 and the metro area is nearly 750,000. There are large corporate HQ located in Boise. A lot of the people leaving California; Oregon and Washington are moving to Idaho.
