  • This is why I do not like hiring former Herd legends. Most of the time you are going to give them longer than they should have and your program becomes stagnant (see Greg White). With Danny it is worse. Even if the AD wanted to fire him, I don't think he can. Danny just has too many "very influential" supporters behind him, and no AD is going to commit suicide over irate internet fans.

Sadly, our only hope is he resigns, or somebody can convince him to do so. I hope I am wrong, but just don't see him getting fired. And as a result, we will continue to be a stagnant program, at best.

The reason it was stagnant was White didn't have any money to spend on men's basketball .The Athletic Department and enemies squeezed him out. I hate the politics.

  • At the end of this season, it's gonna be Spears vs. Dan, Mike and Cathy. Who do you think wins that battle? Will Smith make the decision and back up his AD? Will the BOG go against Cathy and the Dantoni family and dismiss the coach? Very tough situation for Marshall.

Possibly alienate one the great families in school history and lose their financial support. The only way this is resolved well is if Dan retires after this season and the relationship with the school stays in good graces.

  • That's a big FU to everyone in Herd land.  He knows he's safe with his sister on the BOG's.  What a %^&* show mens hoops is.
let's not forget, Mike is complicit in this as well, he set the whole thing up and  Hamrick bought into it. This guy was never anything but an average high school coach and we have paid him millions to destroy our program.

This appears to be the situation and it is really sad for MU. If we let one family dictate the situation we will never rise to the top of the conference. Based on the Gibsons hiring of Mark Snyder it has happened before at MU. If the Dantoni family wants to take their money and leave, let them go. I am sure Brad can up with the money if they bail on MU. IMO, his sister is one of the weakest members of the BOG and we have several of those on the board. Time for everyone to man up and change the direction of the program.

I agree with this 100%. What good is their money if the program is trash? If they love Marshall then they should want the best for Marshall instead of what is best for their brother.

I don't like hiring legends either but would make an exception for Leftwich or Pennington! Right now!

Why? They have done nothing coaching at the college level. Leftwich hasn't proved he is a great OC in the NFL except the year Brady was the man. There are no guarantees with those 2 becoming a head coach.

Whatever his deficiencies as a coach, I don't think anyone is prepared to say that Danny does not have a great love for Marshall. At the age of ~76 or so, I do not foresee such a titanic struggle and predict Danny will step down at season end. Which is why he should have done so at the end of last season with 24 wins under his belt.

You could be right but I don't see it knowing Dan. I think the program will have to be forced from his hands kicking and screaming. There will have to be many conversations with Spears, Smith and others to try and somehow persuade him to do it. And Danny will try and make sure an assistant gets the job as leverage and you can mark that down. Hopefully they won't accept that.

  • Dan is now here for the ride. He doesn't like to recruit and his assistants do virtually all of it. He doesn't like to get involved in practice and doesn't teach fundamentals. Almost all they do is shooting drills and scrimmage. Virtually no rebounding, fundamentals or defense. I've been to 100s of practices. It's time to move on with a fresh face and someone that understands recruiting GUARDS!!!!

You mean like lil' ol' FAU whose mostly guards took FAU to the Final Four and should have been in the finals.

  • "Change the way we practice and I need to get more involved."

Was asked why with all the change up with the lineup. "Just trying to find something"

Said we have a fake enthusiasm and a pep rally with players in the locker room.

Dan says needs to be actively engaging in the practice and more in tune.

Says we are a young team and playing a tough tough schedule and maybe we should have eased into the season.

Crawford is a talented player, but he needs to buy into the team and system and will sit until he is ready.

Did say the teams that are winning in the Sun Belt didn't go to the portal and maybe we need to look at how we use it.

Did say we need to not switch as much on defense.

Lots and lots of talk and excuses in this post game....

Thanks 08, this post and the one below it totally covers the post I started last night at 11:30 but suddenly couldn't remember most of what Danny had said. And I'm only 70. Very accurate and telling.

Seems like they could get a big man isolated with Curfman down low a lot - not always - and Curfman did a pretty darn good job of denial giving away several inches in height. But the problems came when their guy with the ball got penetration and there was no one else down low to help out, or there was missed shot and they had numbers on the glass.

at some point, the revenue we're missing out on b/c of the shape the program's in with him at the helm certainly has to outweigh what the family is giving.  i doubt they're donating six figures every year.
