We needed an OC with experience even at a lower level.

Huff is bringing in another person with little experience coaching and zero planning and managing an offense.

No crap, because he doesn't have any experience for the position.

Think most were hoping Huff would try and reach out to someone that has experience even at a lower level. This shouldn't be the place for on the job learning especially with what the OC consist of.

Hope he's Norv Turner and sets records here with Huff.

This is not at all what we needed.  Bug 10 offenses stink.  Purdue only averaged 24 points per game, 168 yards rushing and 211 yards passing.

I wouldn't assume we'll be running Purdue's offense just because he was a Tight Ends coach there.

I?m actually optimistic.

He was a record setting QB at Texas Tech. They are known for high flying offenses so this guy was very successful. He had a short career in the NFL/CFL. He also spent time on staff at Ole Miss under Lane Kiffin who also has a high flying offense.

On paper, this is a pretty good hire all things considered. He?s an actual QB and probably has some portal connections as well.

It has to be a hard position to fill so I would imagine the depth and quality of candidates are light.

Potentially just a 1 year gig, fairly low paying in comparison to other programs and such a supportive fan base 😏

I disagree. If they were struggling to find candidates the search would have drug on. The seat left by Trickett isn't even cold yet and they hired someone. Maybe because Purdue not going to a bowl game and Huff doesn't have the capability to call plays...which I've said many times, is the hardest job in football. Hopefully he's a genuine X and O guy and not just a recommendation from HC contact list

I'm keeping an open mind.  We wanted a new OC, we got one.  Let's see how it goes on the field.  He's worked with some good offensive minds and played in a prolific system in college.

When I get my coaching staff from all the folks here on this board we won't lose a game. Hell we may not even give up a point while scoring 50 points in the first half every time out.

Most in this board are fairly consistent when it comes to coaching.  We want a lower division "successful" coach to live up and not one that has to learn how to do his job.  Play calling and game flow is not that easy.  This guy has not done that at any level.

Time management and complimentary football are also important.  Need to know when to eat clock to give a defense a rest etc.

Can you put us under center a little more often?  Fullback or h-back would be a tremendous help in pass blocking.  And maybe, oh, 12-15 fewer bubble screens per game?

I look at it a little differently. You get a successful OC from FCS or even D2. They do well for the year they are here under Huff; and could possibly turn this into a longer term gig if we have a better than expected year - either with Huff or any new HC that may come in. Heck, the way we hire, if they really tear it up, they could possibly be an HC candidate should Huff be fired or leave. Opportunity. Plus they likely double their salary in the process. jmho.

need a lot of luck.  but most of all, hope this guy and all the O staff put together the pieces starting with recruiting- from OL, working their way outward from center.

whole team-wise, at least the transfer-ins from last year who actually contributed will have to stay (in most cases).  hopefully, the decent underclassmen who can transfer, won't.  otherwise, i think we're looking at two or three years of major rebuilding.  it might get bleak but there's always a chance

This is what you get when you have minimal money (has nothing to do with Huff?s connections or lack thereof).
If anyone wants to donate a few million dollars to the football program, I am sure Huff could hire a more ?seasoned? OC.

I am looking forward to a young and energetic OC who has played QB at a high level and knows what he is doing. 
Doege will make mistakes (but we all make mistakes)...He will be an improvement over the former OC. 

How about we give Doege a chance and watch him learn, improve and become a good OC.
