  • Starting a new thread since there should be a significant amount of such topics coming in the next two weeks.

Bell, Duggan, and Okiyoshi have been invited to the MLS College Showcase, which invites 44 of the top college players for a 4-day workout with MLS staffs.  Participation does not end eligibility, as Bell attended the showcase last year with Alves and Semmle.  The Showcase this year is in Phoenix, Arizona and runs December 6th-9th.  Good luck to our representatives this week!

  • Here at 2pm, the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Teams have just dropped.

All-Southeast 1st team: Bell, Duggan, Okiyoshi, Perrotta
    All-Southeast 3rd team: Simon

10 of the 11 first-teamers in the Southeast Region were SBC players (4 Marshall, 3 WVU, 2 UCF, 1 UK)

Inclusion on the All-Region team puts them into consideration for the United Soccer Coaches' All-American teams, which I believe will drop Thursday afternoon.

It was announced last week that Marshall was the United Soccer Coaches's Southeast Staff of the Year - which puts them as one of the 8 finalists for national staff of the year, which Marshall won for the 2020 season.

What do you think the chances of Bell claiming the Hermann Trophy are?

As of last week he was the only player with a double-double (10Goals/12Assists)

I guess we'll take the first step on the Hermann road tomorrow as 15 semi-finalists are announced tomorrow.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bell as a finalist. I don't know when the voting takes place, but WMU's Charlie Sharp led the nation in goals in the regular season, and then he went off in the NCAA Tournament getting a hat trick in the first round and upset Duke in round 2 thanks to his own initiative, and then they took Notre Dame to penalties.  He was actually drafted last year but turned down to return to WMU this year, and then showed up big in the tournament.  Depending on the voting, we could also have to worry about WVU's Marcus Calderia.  He was statistically neck-and-neck with Bell this year, BUT... he's still playing this weekend.  The SBC coaches picked Bell as PotY over Calderia, but it was probably a tight decision and the Hermann decisions are probably going more by stats and highlights than the grind.

There is probably a benefit that the ACC had a "down" regular season and not alot of older upperclassmen stood out, but that probably helps people like Sharp and Calderia as much as it helps Bell.  Bottom line, I honestly don't know how that voting will go.

Three finalists will be named in a few weeks.  If I had to guess, the winner will come from the group of Ajago, Bell, Dowd, Sharp, Sulla, or Tubbs.

I was shocked to see Caldeira left off.

Good. I hope Clemson pounds them tomorrow.

  • All-American teams are being announced today.  I expect Marshall and the SBC to be called quite a bit...

  • Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos, the Memphis transfer who just committed to Marshall, also won Third Team All-American honors.

  • The Mac Hermann announced the three finalists today, and no Herd amoung the final three.  The three finalists are Western Michigan University senior forward Charlie Sharp (Brighton, Mich.), Clemson University senior forward Ousmane Sylla (Dakar, Senegal) and Wake Forest University senior defender Garrison Tubbs (Brunswick, Ga.).

Ahead from the MLS SuperDraft to be held on Tuesday the 19th, there's only one award left for us to keep an eye on this season - national coaching staff of the year to be announced on Friday the 16th.  Marshall is one of 8 finalists -
    Hofstra
    Georgetown
    Seattle
    SIU-Edwardsville
    New Hampshire
    Notre Dame
    Marshall
    Western Michigan

Clemson is not one of the finalists, so it will be the first time since 2018 the staff of the year is not the national champion staff.

  • Here are the final rankings from the United College Soccer Poll for Division One schools.  I figured we would end up right around eighth.  As Coach Grassie said, if we didn't finish first it was going to be a disappointing year but, as has been noted in this thread, there were some good takeaways from the past season.

A TON of positives all the way around. The only blackmark, we didn't win a natty. Funny, great season but we're all disappointed we didn't win it all. Who'd have ever thought that about a Marshall athletic team? Crazy. If we shore up the defense and become more physical next season, I fully expect another good run to the college cup.

  • If you add UK who finished 27th in poll, the SBC had 5 teams in top 27.  Marshall also finished with the most wins in country with 18. Finish wasn't what we expected but overall a great year considering 2 trophies and a ton a new players (15 of 27).

Spring season will be here before you know it!

Government is the most dangerous institution known to man. Throughout history it has violated the rights of men more than any individual or group of individuals could do: it has killed people, enslaved them, sent them to forced labor and concentration camps, and regularly robbed and pillaged them of the fruits of their expended labor. ~ JOHN HOSPERS
