Topic: Anyone think JacQai Long starts for us 2024?

I kind of doubt it but he can run with the ball and I don't think we have a line that can consistently create a safe pocket for Pennington.   Installing a running and throwing QB would be the fastest fix the offense.

Do you mean Parachek, the tall QB from Michigan?  I have heard he had a big arm.  But, we really need some o line retooling to set up a pocket passer for success.

I hope we have a QB hidden on the roster somewhere. It's been so long since Cato made every game seem winnable, regardless of the score in the 2nd half. Litton had the tools but things went wrong. Heck it would just be nice to see a QB develop year after year, even if not a world beater.

No.  Did you watch any Hurricane games this year?  Hope he ends up being a good qb for us.

correct "ru4mu2" ..... Long is not the answer as a D1 quarterback and people would see that of they watch any tape or watched in person last season at Hurricane ! the ONLY time he put up #'s was against teams that Hurricane had stolen players from !

I know Jacqui very well. Hes a born leader, trust me. He will come in ready to compete. Hard for a freshman to expect to start but he has the tools. Ive coached him, and enjoyed every minute of it. Wont shock me if he makes a big splash early.

I'd say there is no chance.  Hopefully he gets better down the road, but I saw him play against Huntington High this year and he's got a ways to go.

No I don't get to watch High school football.  I posted a link to his Hudl highlights.  That's why I started this conversation to find out more.  His highlights look great but that's the point they are all of the good play, with none of the bad.

We had Morris from Washington on campus today. He backs up Penix, but started 15 games in the two years before he got there.  He?s thrown for about 3,700 yards and 20 TDs in his career. He has one year left.

That would be a heck of a pickup for Marshall. We were his first visit after entering the portal. The guy was highly recruited out of high school. He is considered a good locker room guy.

Hope we land this guy. That gives Cole another year to mature and possibly be the full time starter as an RS Junior in 2025. IF, we don't get someone better.

Long played at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio in the 2022 season and transferred back to WV for the 2023 season.

Long, who is 6-2 and 200 pounds, helped Hoban finish as the Division II state runner-up with a 14-2 record last season. He completed 132 of 201 passes for 1,913 yards and 15 TDs in an offense featuring running back Lamar Sperling, Ohio's 2022 Mr. Football. Sperling recently graduated from Hoban.

Not saying he isn't a decent player, he wont start as the initial poster posed the question. Obviously he has some talent but he has some work to do to make it in D1. jmho.

This is basically my assessment of him having seen him play.  He has some physical skills that would make him attractive as a D1 QB, but he is not going to be ready to be one on day one.  He's going to require some development.
