. . . didn't fare too badly when the final results in the race for the Vic Bubas Cup in the Sun Belt Conference were out. The Cup reflects the overall sports performances of member schools' teams in the recently completed school year.
Texas State won this past year's Cup, edging JMU 130.5 to 126. The Top 5 finishers overall also include Coastal Carolina, 119.5, Arkansas State, 118, and Marshall and Louisiana tied for 5th place at 117 each.
Actually IMO, this speaks pretty well of MU Athletics overall, particularly of our Olympic sports teams. Especially, when you consider that in our TOP 2 Revenue Sports, Football, under TWO Coaching Staffs, in the last decade or so overall, the team's performance and on-the-field game results have been, frankly, mundane and UNDERWHELMING. The same, or perhaps a little worse, can also be said of Marshall's Men's Basketball in the just completed decade of "Leadership" under High School Danny!!
If MU's Leaders ever decided to make HERD Football and Men's Basketball programs capable of COMPETING year-in and year-out for League championships and meaningful postseason play, the HERD could seriously be in the running for, and occasionally, or more often, WINNING the SBC race for the Bubas Cup!!
