  • Make our offense better.  The bar is not set very high.  An average offense would be a big improvement.  You can do it.

    Final 2023 Season
    Marshall Offense Stats

    Passes Had Intercepted Rank 125
    Passing Offense Rank 61
Pass Completion Rank 48 (thanks to all those short passes)
Passing Yards Per Completion Rank 104
    Team Passing Efficiency Rank 100

    Rushing Offense Rank 93

    Sacks Allowed Rank 105
Tackles For Loss Allowed Rank 121

    First Down Offense Rank 86
    3rd Down Conversion Rank 119 (31.3%)
    4th Down Conversion Rank 127 (24%)

    Red Zone Offense Rank 117
    Scoring Offense Rank 102
    Time of Possession Rank 76
    Total Offense Rank 85

Marshall?s 2023 offense was in the bottom 1/3 of FBS in 10 of 15 measured categories.
Marshall?s 2023 offense was in the top 1/3 of FBS in No measured category.
Marshall?s 2023 offense was in the middle 1/3 of FBS in 5 of 15 categories

Marshall?s 2023 offense was in the bottom 10% of FBS in 1/3 of the measured categories.

I used stats from the NCAA which does not include new FBS programs that were not yet bowl eligible.  130 FBS teams total.

  • The true measure of a quarterback is his success on 3rd down and in the redzone.  That?s passing when it matters.

It was painful to watch our offense,  we were so one dimensional it was sad, 3-4-5 yard passes, and we couldn?t pass at all when it mattered.

I just hope one of young quarterbacks has the moxy and talent to run a decent offense.

I don?t know if I can do another year of 3 yard passes, runs on 3rd down and games with no touchdown passes.

  • 2023 shows how bad the OL really was.  93rd in rushing offense with Ali.  105th in sacks allowed.  It was probably a blessing we were throwing short passes or Fancher would have been murdered.  121st in tackles for loss Allowed.  Come on, block somebody.  117th in Red Zone offense, beat when it's time to step up.

We are in great need for a QB and depth at QB.  Unless our OL improves significantly we will see our second team (and maybe 3rd team) QB starting games similar to the last 2 seasons before the season is over.  The OL room consists of 5 upperclassmen and 7 underclassmen, not including transfers.  By my count we have 5 OL transfers.

  • The football program has seen its best days by far with or without Huff. May as well get used to it.

Unless whoever wins the QB job shows more ability than what we've seen the past few years, along with decent OL, receivers and a RB who can break contain at the LOS, the new system will not succeed.

What worries me, even if the personal is better, is the HFC has not been immersed in the Air Raid during his career.
In memory of Dr Daniel P Babb who taught so much to so many.
