Well first off, Huff addressed the issue that Fancher could throw a decent pass on 3rd down every so often and it would get dropped.
In the Air raid you have to have good route runners with hands and I think the coaching staff tried to address that situation.
They also thought they?d have an experienced Fancher and then that fell through, then thought they?d have an experienced Griftis then that flew through. They brought in Braxton B and he looks like a TJ McMahon situation.
It?s not like the staff aren?t trying. There?s no reason one of QBs on the roster can?t pass the ball and run the offense. These kids have been preparing to play QB in college since the age of 6-7.
My thoughts are if you are a QB on the bench. You get one year to develop, learn the offense, strengthen your body and get your timing down with WRs (QBs and WRs practice together independently of the team all year).
After that year if you cant go in and run the offense and complete 50% (against a team that is equal to us) the kid needs to either switch positions, transfer to whomever will take them or go on academic scholarship.
We wouldnt keep a linebacker that missed 5 tackles, every game. Why should we keep a QB that cant go 20/40, that?s just dead weight and not a good use of a scholarship.
In the new G5 world our experience has been, you have to bring 4 QBs to find one and you need at least 2 kids good enough to play at all times and sometimes 3 that can play.
