he signed to play here & now he's going somewhere else.  so, at what point in the process now is their signature worth the paper it's on?  kickoff of the 1st game?  just have the team sign letters of intent right before they run out the tunnel?

Almost every kid likes other schools.  They all grew up dreaming of playing at their big state school or a national championship team.  Whether their athleticism, skill, or other circumstances brought them to Marshall over the top sports schools in the state or country, in most cases we were not their original dream.  That's just reality and not a reflection of Marshall.  And with some of the cool majors and programs Marshall has now that will probably change some.  But I doubt anyone who didn't grow up very local to Huntington dreamed about playing for the herd and not all the local kids, either, obviously.  You think our Florida recruits wouldn't rather be playing for Florida, FSU, or Miami?  That also doesn't mean they won't come to love Marshall and Huntington and appreciate the opportunity we gave them.  But they have to get here and be a part of it first.

Candidly, if he choose to throw the "put" over football, I'd say that's a good choice.  The individual sport, if he likes it better, he's better off staying there. 

I'd also say that he's not expecting any chance of playing beyond college football, without that dream, T&F does seem better for him.  Maybe he has visions of the Olympics or something. 

But I also agree, if Marshall was a knock-down choice anyway, it's best he's gone IMHO.  How could you dream of playing for WVU, then sign with MU?  I just don't see it myself.  Looks like it would be hard to work your axx off if you really wanted to be somewhere else.

I can understand his choosing track ... he broke Randy Barnes record in the shot earlier in the year and Barnes was an Olympic team member. He may have gotten some significant NIL money as well.

Collegiate T&F in USA is very worldwide.  Packed with internationals.  Hard to be a part-time player and win.  He realized that I imagine.  He can be highly successful once he adjusts to the heavier shot put.

Yep, if that's what he really believes, then it is pretty obvious that he doesn't have the sense to come in out of the rain!!  Good riddance!!

Comment out of context.  Misinterpreted.  This kid comes from a Herd family (his dad played here).  They all recognize that football won?t offer the kid what the Olympics will, long term.  They are correct.  He?s clearly a word class track athlete.  But he?s NOT that special in football.  The NFL is not in his future, but the Olympics probably are.  But most of all, football is too risky in his position.  His family has said as much.

It would have been great if this young man had came to Marshall; I know this family. They are great people and have always been Our Universities supporters. Yet, his 'special' talent is in track and field...let's root and support him at tOSU. He and his family have truly been one of us. This fellow has a once in a lifetime God given Olympic talent of winning a medal representing our great nation.

I think the young man has a chance to be a world class shot putter.  Wish he was coming to Marshall, but still wish him the best of luck.  I believe he broke Randy Barnes HS shot put record in the state.
