Woody was the best when he did the local sports radio show and covered Marshall sports. Hate it he no longer did those shows. I ran into Woody back in July, and he was looking much better.  He was getting around really well. We talked for probably 30 minutes about Marshall sports. Such a great guy and a great ambassador to Marshall. He will be missed.

I hate to hear this. I used to go to the call in show at the Pub back in the day and he was always a friendly guy when we'd talk there.

This reminds me... E-Man used to call in after every game and talk to "Woodrow". I noticed E hasn't posted in a long time. Hope everything is ok with him.

I ran into my good friend Woodrow on Thursday and he was in very good spirits heading to Martinsburg to broadcast the game with Huntington High. When I found out about his passing yesterday it hit me like a ton bricks. RIP, Woodrow.

It seems like Marshall is transforming in a way.  Not saying good or bad but changing.  Marshall felt like family to many of us growing up in Huntington as we knew the characters.

We had Salvatore we had to read.  Woody's voice to listen to, Marshall people were a tight group of loyal people.  As the university is transforming from a teaching to a research school it is also losing some of the community feel.

This is in line with college football.  I went to the game yesterday but literally half the team wasn't on the team last year.  There is no bond to the players.

Woody always meant Marshall and was a great ambassador for the school.  He will be missed.

Broadcaster, talk show host and columnist Joel ?Woody? Woodrum passed away in his sleep last night in Huntington. In a lengthy and decorated media career, Woodrum reported on the Marshall Thundering Herd and high school football as well. He is most noted for work as the color commentator for MU football and basketball radio broadcasts as well as hosting or co-hosting local pre- and post-game shows. Woodrum was also behind the microphone as the public address voice for Marshall?s football, basketball and volleyball teams.

Woodrum received numerous awards including West Virginia Broadcaster of the Year from the National Association of Sportswriters & Sportscasters. In addition to his work at Marshall, Woodrum also worked full time at Kindred Communications. At Kindred, Woodrum hosted Sportsline Daily Talk Show, wrote and edited the Herd Insider and did play-by-play and color for high school sports broadcasts.

Woodrum was a native of Winfield and he graduated from Winfield High School. He served as the equipment manager at Marshall until 1995 and his full-time career in radio and print media ended in 2017. While semi-retired, Woodrum was recently on the call for radio broadcasts of Huntington High School football.

At the Marshall University Alumni Association Awards Banquet in April, Woodrum was recognized with the Distinguished Service to Marshall University award.

I was blessed to know Woody for a number of years; I'd say he knew me by "face", as there were so many names for him to remember. But once in a while he would call me by name.  He has a number of relatives highly involved with MU still, in regards other than his skill set.

Woody was, as many of you know, ill off and on for a number of years.  As mentioned here earlier, he seemed to be doing better.

For those of us older, you'll remember when Paul Swann was brought in to do some "team work" with Woody; whether real or unreal, they had some healthy discussions back in the day on the post games shows, etc.

RIP my friend, you did good for yourself in a world of Herd.

Loved listening to the show when the E-Man called in and talked with Woody. Those were some good conversations in relation to Marshall sports. Woody's knowledge of Marshall's sports history and some of the stories he told on that radio show made it so much fun to listen to. He was a wealth of knowledge. A huge asset to Marshall University. He will be missed greatly.

Marshall fans have lost a couple of great guys recently, Woody & TRS.
I didn't personally know Woody, but he was definitely loved.
Right Stuff & I regularly spoke and I turned into a Herd soccer fan.

Funny story, my wife and I would listen to the show after every game; back then, the coverage ran out about 10 miles east of Maysville, then came back on for some reason, about two mile west of Maysville for about five minutes.  Most of the time, E-man and Woody would be on during our treck across the AA from Grayson to Vanceburg.  E-man would come on and say "Woodrow", and they talked and talked and talked. E-man would give a whole breakdown of the game, sometimes almost player by player.  Those were good times..................RIP

A passionate Marshall fan.  Almost had to throw him out of a soccer match one time because he came out on field to protest call.  A great Marshall fan.

That's good to hear E-Man. Glad you are doing well.

 Losing Woodrow and TRS is a huge punch to the gut. Those guys will be missed.
