  • Against a team with a $20,000,000 roster, and likely the most offensive team speed in the nation.  This is a dum&^$r*( take.  While I don?t think we win our division over JMU, calling them a bad team is just stupid, especially given a fan base who doesn?t show up.

Fan base that doesn't show up eh? Yea, after years of godawful football sucked the soul out of the football program

Amazing fans kept turning out as well as we did given the past 20 years with this dog shite product

    That?s the reality, pal

You?re full of %^&*.  Even in 99 there were TONS of empty seats.  Same in 2003.  Same in 2014.

Moreover.  How many SEC teams go to 7 straight bowl games and have 1/4 of the seat empty?  How many ACC teams average 25,000 on a 7 year run of bowl games?  WV sucks, perennially.  Are they leaving 1:4 of the stadium empty for 90% of games?

Huntington?s negative attitude and perpetual bitching, exemplified by you, is the problem.

I saw a lot of empty seats on the tv today at a lot of schools.  We do well for who and what we are. But I do agree that calling us a bad football team is premature.  We will know in a few weeks what we are. You can use google and see how our attendance compares to our peers.

Comparing Marshall to SEC and ACC schools?

    That?s not apples to apples

Compare Marshall attendance to peer schools

  • Our players are tackling up by the shoulder pads.  Stiff arm time.  I don?t remember that as much under our previous 2 or 3 DC.

People getting a million dollars to play college football are going to break tackles or be shifty enough to avoid them.  We played them better than the 2 previous peer institutions.  But feel free to keep doubling down on your awful take.

  • We all see things through different lenses. I was pleasantly surprised by the Herd's first half. Save a couple of breaks, the halftime score would have been much closer or maybe in MU's favor. The illegal procedure call that nullified the punt recovery and the failed 4th and 1 hurt. I won't second guess the latter because I understand why the coaches wanted to keep the offense on the field. However, I didn't like the play call.

I also won't question the coaches any longer about who should and should not be playing. Earle is the right choice at QB and his injury had an impact.

  • I have more hope after yesterdays game.  I thought the offense performed well.  The defense gave up way too many big plays against an excellent opponent.  Looks to me like we have something to build on.  It will all play out in the weeks to come.  Next game now becomes the most important.  Take them one at a time and keep winning.  The potential seems to be there.

I'm just calling it like I see it based on previous years experience. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I honestly hope I'm wrong. No one wants us to be great any more than I do, but at this point I don't think we are. I guess it depends on expectations. Back in the Snyder days, I kept hearing just wait until we start conference play and we all know today how that turned out. If we were any good, I think we'd of been a lot more competitive against both P4 opponents, but especially VT. Not win. Just be more competitive.

  • We have not played our best yet.  I thought this team would improve as the season went on and I still think this.  However, our coaches need to get tackling cleaned up, communication better and the right players playing more.  Chuck Montgomery and Chapman?s speed can help this team win more and so can more use of AJ Turner & a vertical threat TE.  Turner should start in the 1st and 2nd half.  Also if you can?t tackle & are always out of position to stop the run find another player.  I thought losing Stephen Dix was more of a loss than anybody else.  I like our young secondary RFR and Reagan.  These older returners can?t get it together try somebody else.

You can't go by one game (VT). Stony Brook we took care of business and OSU just isn't a good example of what we can be. Our D looked really good at BT until they stayed on the field to much. Our offense looked great against OSU. Get both rolling now against the rest of the schedule and we are going to be more than fine. I thought Earle and the offense made tremendous gains and showed more promise than I've seen in years from our offense. Kind of reminded me of the Stan Hill days before his injury. And I'm not going to worry about the Defense because OSU has NFL speed and talent. I'm very optimistic about rest of the season.

  • The attendance complaints are a pet peeve.  Not excuses, but things to consider:

Marshall is one of the smallest FBS schools in the country with only about 10,000 undergraduates.  If we were 20-30k like most schools, or 40-50k like a lot of schools, how would attendance look?  Not only more students, but producing 2-5x the number of alumni every year.  It?s why I always say the only way to grow athletics is to grow enrollment.

Next, how many schools have a Big Ten, SEC, 2 ACC and 2 Big 12 schools within 3 hours of their campus?  Plus we are located in a tri state area,?so people from KY and OH tend to have some state loyalty attached to their fandom.

I won?t get into demographics, which is the standard go to, because even if Huntington was younger and richer the first two would still be hard to overcome.

I won?t get into demographics, which is the standard go to, because even if Huntington was younger and richer the first two would still be hard to overcome.

I agree about attendance.  When the Joan is full, it is an intimidating atmosphere for the opposing team.  Last years VT game was a show of force at the Joan, but I don't recall one since then.

Now, after seeing how stadium staff treats fans at the Horseshoe, it is clear that OSU appreciates the fans.  The stadium workers were polite, helpful and made for a nice afternoon, except for the final score.  Compare that to the Joan's stadium staff behavior during the last rain delay and I can see why people would not want to spend their money to be screamed at to leave cover and go out in a downpour.

As for the quality of our team this year, both our O and D line played pretty well yesterday.  There will be positive grades in both of those rooms when they sit down and watch the film.  Once Gibson returns, the D line will even be better.  Earle had his best game in a Marshall Uniform and his mistakes were effort mistakes, I can live with that.  He's only been here a couple months.  Our WR room made some plays, which shows they are capable, especially against some of the best in college football.  Our LB room did not have a good day as a group and that really hurt our defensive performance.  Of all of the position rooms, the LB's definitely were exposed and sometimes just dominated.  Special Teams did alright.  The biggest mistake the punt team made was a coaching mistake.  If a coach can't get a D-1 kid to do what he is told to do, the coach must change the behavior or find someone who will. The punt that was fumbled and called back, Alec Clark threw a dart.  I hope he continues to improve.  A good punter can change a game.

At the end of the day, the first offensive drive shows that we are capable of moving the ball.  We must adjust to the other teams adjustments in order to continue the success we showed in drive 1. OSU had a sideline full of outstanding athletes, but they compete in the Big 10, not the SBC.  From what I saw we will be competitive in the SBC and if the stars line up could play for a conference title.

I'm glad we got to play in Columbus, collect our 1.6 million and perform on the national stage.  We got beat, but not embarrassed. I'm way more optimistic after yesterday's game than I was after VT.

No, it wouldn't have. Ohio State would have just ran more plays and not scored as quick.

They tried one deep ball it got picked and never threw it deep again. Chip Kelly is an offensive mastermind, he quickly saw the Herd could not run sideline to sideline with them and adjust play calling to expose the defense. Ohio State's offense is arguably the fastest group of skill guys in the country. Did Marshall tackle well? No, but like Huff said, sometimes a guy makes a play and breaks a tackle. The Herd will not see that caliber of talent, size and speed until next year when they open at Georgia. It could have been closer in the first half if a few whistles and plays go out way maybe 28-20 or something like that but Ohio State was going to win this game with ease. They played base defense 80% of the time with no exotic blitz or coverages on the back end. Overall, more positives for the Herd than negatives IMO. Earle looked way better, Receivers were solid for the most part and stringing together a couple long drives 10+ plays was something I don't think many expected.
