  • He'll be here IF he wants to be here. He won't be fired. If he is here next season, I beg him to get a new DC. Seymour is terrible at adjustments and almost lost us the ODU game.

The ball is squarely in Huffs corner. His call

Or maybe they have a heck of a QB. I'll bet they are saying the same thing about our offense. People were raving about our defense the last few weeks. Our fans want a perfect team and no losses, shut the other team down, score a lot of points and no mistakes. The other team has players and coaches also. This ODU team destroyed Georgia Southern and almost put 50 on them. That QB is hard to handle.

  • A) Sign him.  Hes a solid coach that brings in quality kids.

    B) Is there a rift between Huff and the ODU coach?  Huff was a little fired up in the field  after the game.

No doubt he is very good. He has his best game against us. Just like the GSU backup.

  • Didn't we try to renew his contract last year and he said no?

Supposedly we tried to get Huff to re-sign sometime after the Notre Dame win and after the Virginia Tech win as well and he declined both times.

  • When Huff gets back, Smith and Spears need to lock him in a room and not let him out until he signs an extension.

Who will coach the team if he stays in that room for most of the week

  • I think it depends on what opens up in offseason.
Huff, in my opinion, is sitting in the driver seat.
    IT'S TAILGATING SEASON!

  • Here is my question? If we lose next week 28-27 and GS wins their game are we back on the fire Fluff or hope he leaves bandwagon?

  • My concern is if he turned us down twice. Maybe he really does not want to be here. Eventually, he may get hired elsewhere. Which is fine, but what state does he leave us in when he does? If his heart is not in the right place for the University and program. It may be a little worse for wear.

  • I think he rolls.  Picks desired location he wants to live in next - goes and makes more $ doing so.  He?s done good work for The Herd!  Which coaches are better than him on campus besides Grassie??

  • If we do not resign Huff, we will literally lose half the team.  Players like him.  A new coach would have a tough time restocking the roster getting late to the transfer portal.

You do know that is basically occurring now?

What was it, we have 36 new players for the 2024 season and we had like 45 new players for the 2023 season.

That is the new norm for G5 schools.

That is true. But it may be much more than half. And keeping guys like Braxton and Green would give us better odds with Huff. Virtually every player that has made any impact would be gone. I've been saying it over and over. If Huff leaves we are going to see how important his recruiting was in this new era.

If Coach Huff leaves, yes Braxton could follow him

But Green is going to the NFL. This will be his last college season.

Supposedly there were some informal conversations, but no formal extension was extended.

Just giving examples. Most contributors with years left will be gone. And we will get to see if the new coach can bring in the type of talent Huff did at a school with virtually no money for NIL. I think a lot of people are going to regret what they have been hoping for the last 4 years.

  • Braxton could roll - but Long and Dematha Qb could as well.  That could be really bad for Herd!  Both are next to shine.

  • Huff really has a connection with the players. Just watch some of the social media showing the interaction of Huff and the players. I would bet that a lot of the players will look for another school if Huff leaves. We had players follow Donnan when he left for UGA and it was hard to transfer in those days. Donnan did try to discourage the players from leaving Marshall.  A lot of kids are just interested in the coach and have no loyalty to a school. That is the new order.

  • I still question some of his coaching decisions, but there is no denying he has handled the NIL period brilliantly. Another thing I was told is this is the happiest Huff has been since starting his time at Marshall. He likes his locker room, plus has a coaching staff (for the most part) that was not "forced" on him.

In the end Huff will see what is out there (has a really good agent), plus how much Marshall is willing to commit to both him and his program before he signs another extension with us. Personally, I don't blame him.

  • What ever happens, happens, but the level of new found Huff-love is damn near comical.  Is that really the reward for winning 5 straight games against teams in the bottom half of the conference?  You all know ODU is now 4-7 and they are the highest ranked team we have beaten during this stretch, right?

Look, I am beyond happy with our winning streak and the possibility to win the east,  but it?s not like Huff morphed into Saban on the flight home from Ga So.  He?s the same guy that was a .500 coach against FBS for the last 3 years. He?s the same guy that went 6-7 last year. He?s the same guy that kept Stone on the field at VT when he wasn?t doing anything.

I think he does a really great job in the portal. I do think the players really seem to like him. I don?t know if we can do better. However, he?s still the same coach that didn?t understand clock management at Ga So. He?s still the same coach that followed up ND with BGSU.  He?s the same coach that couldn?t stop the bleeding in the second half of the season last year.

  • This team is fun to watch, special talent and just imagine if Metcalf didn't get injured.  He was killing Ohio State.  Having Fitz and Metcalf would be super special.

  • The what if virus continues on all forums about Huff relentlessly! You have no clue what backroom discussions and conversations are being had whatsoever! Marshall football players are finally jelling as a team where winning consistency is happening. Can we be thankful that the Doc era is being put in the past. Our first Black head coach given to us by a WV born son who had to leave this State to become one of the winningest and respected Football Coaches. Look how many of the most popular head Coaches have contributed to our overall success. This makes us all the more special and you want to tartness the program it?s your personal bouldering on hatred for the man. Some even come close to the R word! College football has changed due to Money coming out of the closet. It has become the haves and the have nots! Some of you poor mouth the very University who was a part of your life helping you to further yourselves in becoming respected in your careers. Our country is changing now hopefully for better. The fight to continue at Marshall to say once more?winning is everything? and ?we play for championships continues?! Go Herd!

  • Sadly he's gone after this year no matter what happens. Like the guy and wish him well though.

I think this sums it up. Win out. Lose out. Get blown out. Forfeit out. Look great. Look horrible. It doesn't matter. He is gone after this season. All things considered...would have liked to keep him.
