  • No. I?m the poster that knows a very large prominent company would like to expand their business in this market and have personal ties to and support Rich Rod. I don?t think it?s contingent on RR but for a company to invest its buying a brand. RR is a brand in WV.

Do you think RR is on the short list of candidates at WVU?

  • Oh glad too know they could care less about basketball. At least we now know. Thanks!!!

It is what it is. We had X amount f dollars to spend and Coach was as good of an option as any. Trust me, MU finances are very doom and gloom from what I?ve been told.

  • The Mods on the WVU board say that RichRod will NOT be going back there. I guess they plan to move in a different direction.

I think you meant to say ?couldn?t??

Anyway, we are a football first school. Have been for decades now. It is what it is.

For the record, I?m a football first guy, but have been saying for the last decade we should heavily invest in basketball. Given the size of our school and proven to have solid attendance when winning, we could have built a legit basketball program that helped fund and open doors for football.

I mean that's been patently obvious for the last 20+ years

  • They handed CJ a contract so we could afford a better football coach. They knew this was coming

We also had to make him "coach-in-waiting" because he was leaving for a bigger school and the fact of the matter is that the head coach we had at the time had no connections to finding another assistant coach. Dan D'Antoni had no contacts in the college game because he (a) spent most of his career as a high school coach and (b) he had a pretty insulated career here at Marshall where he was not forced to go out and make those necessary connections.

This type of non-sense would never have happened under Rick Huckaby, Billy Donovan, Greg White or Donnie Jones. They had worked the college circuit. They had connections. When one assistant left, they found other assistant coaches through the contacts they had established. The fact is we had a coach that couldn't make those connections so that is why we went in the direction we did. And Dan was paid way too much to not be able to find a capable assistant.

It boiled down to we let a head coach with a career 54% winning percentage who was 77 years old go over the athletic director's head and name a coach-in-waiting. This would have happened no where else in the college basketball landscape. No where else!

If he wants to come I say we take him. National name that wins and rumored to be bringing in new money from donors we don't have yet. Checks a lot of boxes.

But we'll probably go with a "nicer" guy with less rumored baggage. Feels like the Marshall way.

That's interesting since a post showing a image from USA Today (fy2023) has us as #2 for budget in SB for both football and basketball spending.

And top 3 nil.  But that doesn?t fit the narrative.

  • One thing I can guarantee....MU does not have available funds. I know a BOG personally, that has mentioned moving back to !AA . That was applauded by other members as well. True story.

While I agree with this, I don't understand why you praise Lee Moon who sacrificed the basketball program in the vein chezdog described CJ's  cheap hiring was to increase money available for football.
