  • It's Tony Gibson.   Brad and Christian are currently in Raleigh.   Tony turned Charlotte down yesterday.   This is the job he wants.

God help us all if this is the case.

  • This decision now lies squarely with the Brad Smith.

Hopefully the house they are building isn't made of straw.

  • Kinda figured Brad was too conservative to go for a splash hire like Rich Rod.

  • Wait.....nobody has seen this movie before?  A 28 year long assistant with ties to WVU?  There's probably a reason such a "great coordinator " has never had a HC opportunity.  But Ol' Marshall will hire anyone.  Just ask Doc, Dantoni and Corny.

  • Gibson isn?t the guy for me. If huff actually wants to still be here offer the man an extension. I can?t see myself continuing to stick time and money into a program that doesn?t seem to get it. We don?t want WVU rejects over and over again. We don?t need them.

This might be the end for me. To let Huff go for a guy that FANCHER dropped 41 point on is unforgivable.

  • He is from Van and played at Glenville St. I would say he is not a hard core WVU guy. Like it or lump it, he knows the state and would be comfortable leaving in Huntington. Just hope he can bring in or keep a good OC. We will see how all this plays out. Lots of rumors.

  • I'm hearing Huff may not end up in the SBC after all.

His agent may have strung this out too long.  Someone said he was using USM to leverage us and it's been known for a while that Smith wanted to move on.

Huff has rejcted previous extensions from us.  He should have aprreciated this job more instead of always having one foot out the door.

Maybe he ends up staying.  Maybe we have a new coach.  There's still a lot going on and a win on Saturday may change everything.  Allegedly we told Huff after the bowl loss that extension talk would only happen if he wins the conference.

No one is letting Huff go.  He is on the outs because he wanted to be out.  The only reason he's claiming to want to be here is that other opportunities have fizzled.  Make no mistake.  We could ink this dude to a 5 year/$10M contract and he and his agent would still be looking at other jobs.

Who cares? I?d rather have one more year under Huff than to hire Gibson who is NOT a good DC.

I?d rather have Doege as HC.

Gibson couldn?t stop Cam Fancher and Clint Trickett. He?s terrible.

Hey now, don't forget about the Moten pick six. His defense only gave up 34 to Fancher.

I'm sort of joking. Again, not thrilled with the choice, but their defense was very great overall that season and against some very good teams. We were the only team in an 8 game stretch that scored more than 24 on them.

  • NC State?s locked on, says Gibson will interview at App State, Charlotte and Marshall.  Maybe one of them hits him.

  • Let's not act like Charlotte has some real brain surgeons running their athletic department.

Hell, they hired 80s macho man Biff Poggi and had to dump him 1.5 seasons in. Just because Charlotte offered Gibson is really not that big of a deal.

I agree. I think a lot of fans will turn on the program and AD with this decision.

  • Guys, the last D-Coordinator that The Herd hired as HC turned out to be a good pic. Coach Pruett was the D-Coordinator at Wake Forest and Florida before coming home to coach The Herd. I know there weren't message boards in 1995 when Coach Pruett was hired, but I don't remember anyone being overly enthusiastic over his hire when Jim Donnan left. Coach P was a defensive coach, but brought in a great staff. If it's Gibson give the guy a chance. He may be a flop, but then he may turn out to be great.

And they should. It's beyond stupid that the SB coach of the year and a championship game coming up with a guy that is great at working the portal. Also would most likely keep Braxton and others would be run off for a total gamble like Gibson. If Huff wants to come back just drop your pride Spears because he turned your extension down last year and give the guy an extension now. I can't wait till Spears is gone. Thought I disliked Hamwreck but Spears may be even worse.

  • It?ll be somebody who will take the low ball 750k a year

Not impressed at all with Gibson if it?s him.

I just hope and pray it?s not Biff
Nah we will pay much more than that this time.  I'll be shocked if not $1 mil plus

Did Mark Snyder not exist? Could be wrong but he was a DC before coming here, no?

Hmm technically the last Defensive Coordinator (even as a CO) was Mark Snyder that Marshall hired.

Haha we all wish it didn't exist and Snyder probably drunk enough Vodka during his time and afterwards to not remember anything either.

  • I think we just traded a Yukon Denali for a Ford Edge.
    U may be right.

At best, feels like an unnecessary gamble with our FB program.  Could have matched so miss and have a good year or two more then Huff leaves and we get buyout.

%^&* show in Huntington but I hope it works out

  • Interesting comparison:

Tony Gibson, native of WV, age 52 (currently), no head coaching experience at college level, seasoned defensive coordinator with power conference schools

Bob Pruett, native of WV, age 53 when hired at MU, no head coaching experience at college level, seasoned defensive coordinator with power conference schools

This is in no way an endorsement, but the Pruett hire worked out pretty good for us over the following nine years.
