  • Huffs have made it unlikely that MU would consider bringing them back

Absolute garbage! Huff has made a bad statement here and there. But for the most part, he has represented this university with class. I remember the Ohio State game that the Fox Pre-Game announcers said nothing but good things about Huff including Urban Meyer.

9-3. Players play hard. Players don't quit. We landed some talent in the portal. Best OC hired in a long, long time.

You guys in admin need to quit spending time on this board and look at how you botched the men's basketball program the past three years.

  • This is about to get very interesting for the future?.why because if Sabin takes the WVU job revival of the Coal bowl or something better even. An an outside shot to elevate Marshall status even more and imagine what that may hold for us.

  • So, shockingly, someone's lying. Either he was offered an extension at least twice or he wasn't.

Prior to this year he was.

  • It could mean all.sorts of things. He wants to stay, but his wife doesn't. He wants to stay but for a certain price. Etc...

Not true! I've talked to Jessica several times, and it's not true that she doesn't want to be here. The Huff's have grown to love Marshall and Huntington. Mrs. Huff told me, she doesn't know how those rumors got started about her dislike for Huntington.

  • Maybe he should have appreciated the job he had instead of trying to leave every chance he could.  He was offered twice between ND and the end of last season.  He refused both.  Once the season collapsed he was told win it all or move on.

We'll see what happens on Saturday.

Reading Southern Miss forums they are convinced that he's they're next HC and are mad that their admin is allowing him another week when someone needs to be working the portal.

  • Whatever.  He is an employee here.  He will be an employee somewhere else in the future.  Coach's are loyal to their players not schools.

Huff will have some fond memories and some disgruntled memories just like we all do about prior employers.

If he comes back, I'm OK with that.  If he leaves, I'll be OK with that too.

Marshall is in my blood, I'll be here no matter what.

If he doesn't leave, I think it shows his market value after last year isn't very high.

Again you can't blame him for waiting some time out to make more $$ or a P5 job. Anyone would.

Man E aren't you the guy that said CP should have always been #1 QB, and players were saying he is the Best QB on the squad? I can find the post if you like.
I hope you are right about Mrs. Huff ok with the H-Town area, but a lot of smoke in the opposite direction. As for Huff himself, I think he grew accustomed to it.

  • If Huff truly wants to stay for a price we can afford, and our administration chooses to go with Gibson or *shudder* Clark because they're WV guys and/or we're too butthurt to bury the hatchet with Huff, that would be inexcusable.

It would be time to start calling for Spears' head and to seriously question if Smith should have any involvement at all with athletics.

You are correct about that. When I said that about Cole, that was way before Braylon Braxton stepped foot in the Joan.

Maybe it was when her husband said to be at Marshall means you really like being at Marshall because living in Huntington isn't easy.  Paraphrasing, but it was to that affect.

Then there's interviewing for multiple jobs beginning with Duke not even 4 games into your tenure.  Maybe the Huff's like it here, but his agent wants more and he's the one constantly putting Huff's name in every opening.

Huff has always wanted to leave.  According to Southern Miss fans he is their next HC.  Maybe turning down two extension offers in previous seasons and getting involved with a long time conference rivals on the eve of the biggest game to date of your career wasn't smart IF you really wanted to stay.

Also how many coaches over the many years of college football have told everyone they were staying or wanted to stay only to be in negotiations to leave and within days are being introduced at their new job calling that one their dream job or an opportunity to coach such a program as____________is one you can?t pass up.

You serious Clark? Saban taking the WVU job? That's a laugher. Why would he want that?

  • I have no knowledge of this but it's starting to feel like Huff was using Southern Miss to leverage a better deal out of us and we told him go ahead then.

I worked on a negotiations team over the course of years. Negotiations aren't easy. Two sides are always trying to do what is in their best interest. Negotiations are also not done overnight. Contracts that I have worked with had contracts voted against one or two times before they were ratified. Articles in the contract were rejected.

Just because you say "well we offered him two extensions" doesn't mean jack squat. We don't know the entire stipulations. Buyouts, in this case, are a HUGE matter and aren't done in a week. Right now, Huff has the ball rolling at Marshall. It has been a decade since I had this much excitement. He brought me thrills with some of the notable wins. Marshall needs to be big picture right now and quite frankly, Smith isn't.

And quit bringing the guy's wife into this. I don't even understand that angle. She is the wife of the coach....the mother of his children. Give it a rest. That alone is a bad look on the fanbase.

Marshall is known for that. When Pruett bluffed trying to get more commitment from the administration and they told him see ya. Marshall's leaders have always been an arrogant bunch. Spears should be the one to leave.

I was told that was the reason he ?left ? by former OSU HC John Cooper. We were on a flight together.
