  • While I'm not super stoked and don't feel that this is a home run hire, I watched this video and it's hard not to like the guy.

  • It's easy to see why he wanted to come back and coach here. His roots are in this state.

  • Thank you for sharing this. That was a great video.

IF he is successful he won?t be looking for the first opportunity out of here. That?s really good to know.

  • Great guy. Will be loved by Huntington. Will fit in nicely. Will be a 180 from the Huff family.

Now with that said...how does that whole package resonate with recruits...in the day of NIL and the Transfer portal. There's guys like Tony Gibson...and there's guys like Deon Sanders...and then there is everyone in between...where does the needle need to be to reload in the Transfer portal and get the very best recruits possible every year?

How do you know that? And what if that opportunity was in Morgantown?

They obviously don't want him now, but they certainly might if he proves to be a good head coach.

  • If I am not mistaken, Tony Gibson was a high school assistant coach at Van high school in Boone county. One of the men who worked for me told me that years ago (about the time that he went to WVU).

  • Then why should we?

Because we're not a P4 school and our options are more limited so we're more likely to take a chance on a guy who's never been a head coach before.

But that's not what I'm asking. I was asking the other poster how they could be so confident in his future loyalty to Marshall when he has 12 years with WVU and, as far as I can tell, no affiliation to Marshall other than being born in an area that's sort of close but doesn't really care about us.

Then there is Charles Huff and Eddie George.  Or ton of other coaches in between or higher than in between.  MU doesn?t search.  They target.

  • TG would be considered a Marshall coach if he's indeed hired here.  WVU would never touch him going forward b/c of that.

he didn't play there, he'll just be another name in a long line of non-alumni asst coaches they've had there that they won't be interested in bringing back.

  • I served in the Army with Gibson?s older brother, absolute salt of the earth man.  He was a staff sergeant when I was a private.   I?m sure Tony is the same way.    This may sound weird, but he might be too honest and forthright to be a head coach.

His first order of business should be to retain Doege at all costs. You keep him, you likely keep Braxton and some of the offensive skill guys. Rumors are Huff asked Toby Payne to go with him.

  • Good ole 50+ year old WV boy. I knew Marshall couldn't break the mold for too long. Gotta go back to the well again and again and again and well you get the point.

  • Already the closet morganholers of Marshall hard at work removing their masked avenger attitudes. The ignorance abounding throughout herdfans and herd_nationdum has become altogether boring and foolishness. You are nothing more than a distraction purposely intending to disrupt this teams championship game week preparations!

toby should be easy to keep

1 would think doege would be open to staying here if TG would retain him as OC?  but that's certainly not a given.

It is true.  I get we want to win a championship.  But man it?s hard to leave the fox in a hen house. But at the end of the day, those who are going to leave are going to leave.  Just have to hope we have chose wisely and he can throw a decent team together.   Personally would have kept Huff,  but I guess that ship has sailed.
