  • Basically Huff didn't do what is ethically correct in seeking opportunities.
He definitely didnt go the ethical route from what I heard. He breached contract many times chasing other schools. That and the Fancher situation with the parents getting invloved was the beggining of the end. Being caught lying so much to the point things got so bad that they had to setup a weekly meeting with Huff just to keep things together until the end. The final straw was the Southern Miss AD reaching out to Marshall and asking permission to talk to Huff. Totally caught Marshall off guard. Huff had yet again went behind their back looking for other oppurtunities without them being aware. Huff prpbably thought for sure that reaching out to a conference member would force Marshalls hand to offer him with what he was after. Huffs gamble didnt pay off and it was evident in his last press conference that he had screwed up. Marshall had moved on and now he's stuck in a rebuild of a 1-10 team.

  • When Huff was hired, I was thrilled!!! Young coach from Alabama, coached with Saban, ready to make his mark.....seemed great!! But, after ND and all the drama over the years, I was completely disheartened and disappointed. The one thing I really hate is liars, so Huff just rubbed me the wrong way with how he conducted himself especially last year. In saying that, I will always give credit when due. He won the championship and had a great season despite a few bumps along the way. Good luck to him and his family. Time to turn the page and start fresh. NIL HAS RUINED college football and we will have to accept that reality. Welcome Coach Gibson to the Herd Family. It is truly a special place, and I believe ANYONE who has the opportunity to coach here is very blessed. I will also add EVERYONE HERE is entitled to their opinion and we can always agree to disagree. No one fan is better than another because of a certain opinion. We all luv Marshall and want what is best for the Herd.

  • I remember when I was a very young person hearing an adult say, "never trust anyone who speaks out of the side of their mouth". I have mentioned this in several threads throughout the last several years. That is how I felt about Mr. Huff. I was close to changing my mind during his last two press conferences. He seemed so much different & what I thought was much more transparent.
Either way, I'm glad that he has gone onto what he evidently feels are greener pastures.

  • Here's the deal, Huff wanted out and had been actively seeking other jobs behind Marshall's back. Since the win over Notre Dame, Huff and his agent had been contacting other schools about an opening every season. Trust became an issue, when Huff wouldn't agree ( to a buyout in his contract). That's why a contract extension never happened. AD Spears, and Marshall President Smith wanted to keep Huff here and could never get an agreement on the extension. Huff contacted a few schools during this season. Huff personally flew down to Southern Miss about becoming their head coach. Southern Miss AD, contacted AD Spears to get permission to interview Huff. AD Spears, and President Smith felt a major "betrayal" even though they tried to retain coach Huff, but the trust had eroded beyond repair. When that happened Huff seen the writing on the wall and it was no return at the point. If Huff could have played his cards right, he would be sitting good going into next season, especially if Braxton and Doege returned. As it turns out, Huff is back to square one rebuilding a team that's been losing the last several years. Based on Huff's character it wouldn't surprise me that he will do the same at Southern Miss. I hate to lose Huff, but integrity and trust are crucial to maintaining a winning brand. I hope Gipson we pick up the pieces and keep winning. Gipson should be working on keeping Braxton and Doege.

    Good info
