  • For a person that has never been a head coach, another person that will have to learn on the job....thats a hard no for me

We are in a position to do a real search and get a coach that has winning experience (like from the FCS). Zero reason to get a person for OTJ training because he is good ole boy from Boone county.

Will give him a chance, but 6 years is an eternity for a coach.

Wrong, he is going to have the highest salary pool for assistants in the conference and will be right at #1 nil package in the conference also.

I understand he is well respected and connected within college football.  We'll see what staff he puts together and what players they bring with them.

  • As a follow Marshall buddy just told me, Southern got the best of this deal. Huff will get the highest assistant pay pool and more NIL dollars. I understand why Huff would take the job. Like another poster said, he will be at P4 school very quickly if he turns around Southern program.

That is wrong.  Our salary pool will be better and our nil will now be with S Miss.  The deal Gibson is getting is the one offered to Huff btw.

  • 6 year deal?

    What say you??

I can't wait until his new OC Todd Graham comes in and cusses out all the players & tells them that if they don't get a max lift in the weight room that they won't get a meal at the training table.

6-years for a guy that has never been a head coach???

  • Like I?ve been saying for over a week, a large donor organization wanted a ?brand? to invest in. That brand was RR or TG. Both have a strong WV brand. When you shake out the diff between them, TG is the better hire. This is his dream job. Let?s get behind him, let?s support the businesses and ppl who got him here, and enjoy this ride. We have us a coach that bleeds green and white. I believe he will be a halll of fame coach for our Herd.

  • Good old boys WV redneck loyalist at it again just like Doc we had for a decade of one championship. Marshall loss Billions if this is true about Gibson?s hiring. Remember this Marshall is being held back by WV loyalist. I love my state but, politics is the game for only WVU nothing else!

That's what it's going to take to not take step back.  I just texted some friends saying I hope Gibson being local generates more NIL money.  If we have increase maybe we can keep the train rolling

  • Football is headed in the same direction as basketball, a dumpster fire. I have followed Marshall since the late 1950's/early 1960's and watch some stupid moves by Old Main. Letting Carl Tacy, the only basketball coach to take Marshall into the Top 10, leave over not giving him a raise. The stupid hires for head coaches list to long to type.  Marshall is its own worst enemy.

  • Where do you guys think head coaches come from?  All the good ones are seasoned coordinators.  This is not hiring a position coach and rolling the dice to see if they can make the transition.  Gibson may have just not wanted the responsibility of being a head coach until he was a little older and back in WV.  Everything isn't a negative.  He was higher paid as a coordinator than all the head coaches in the Sun Belt except one who JUST got a raise for not even winning the division, because Texas State is stupid and not Marshall.  But they were trying to show they could survive in the PAC whatever.

  • Everyone entitled to their opinion. But take 3 things into consideration:

Huff never wanted to be here
No coach wants to live here. And I mean ZERO.
Millions of new $$ into the athletic department

I know of $500k additional just today being pledged.

Guy does seem well connected to people that make things possible 'round here.  Enough money at a G5 makes a big difference no matter who is in charge.

Besides being from WV what brand is Tony Gibson? He might end up being an awesome coach but nobody knows who Tony Gibson is.

  • No offense, but I have heard this mantra of receiving wvu supporters or WV money coming to Marshall since the days when Marshall hired Eddie Barrett from wvu as the Marshall AD.

I am not holding my breath since it has never happened in the 50 plus years since we had Eddie as our AD. Plus the there isn't nearly the amount of money left in the coal business as it was years ago. Then consider out the lower population in WV.
