I may be an outlier on this, but I feel that everyone of these kids practiced all year long, and we always say "next man up"; its their time. And I think Monken would very much play his "other" kids too, once he's up by 3 or 4 touchdowns. It would be a great reward for them too. 

Plus, no doubt that many still on the roster have to either be cut by Gibson, or earn a place on his team.  So, as he said in his presser, this would either provide him a way to see /evaluater a bunch of kids (if we play), or steal a chance for him to do so (if we don't play). 

It seems a dark decision to "not play" the game, hopefully only safety (not results) will be the determinant.

We have over 100 some players on the team, we have like 30 some enter the portal already or declare for the draft.

Should tell you all you need to know who is committed to the university.

But that is what happens when the portal opens during bowl season, nil, and no limit on transfer in this version of college sports.

Exactly!!! Do we knew for the last week who had hit the portal and now it's a shock lol??  Not taking up for Huff but it's now his fault when most aren't even following him? Where is the commonsense in all this?

Neal Brown told every player on WVU they have earned the right and deserve the opportunity to play in the bowl game and do not pass on it.

This is a coach who truly cares about his players. You want what is best for them and want them to enjoy the moment they have earned.

He also told all the recruits he would want them to honor their commitment to WVU.

This may have been different if he was going to another school and I really would not fault a coach if a player hasn't signed to recruit them to your new school if it's a good fit, but again it shows class.

Honestly if i was a player and a coach left and told me to leave or not play in a bowl game, I'm not sure I could continue to respect that person and certainly would not want to play for them anymore.

Honestly, not fielding a team in the bowl game is not acceptable. Period.

Tony?s one job over this week is to make sure he convinces enough kids to stay. Failure is not an option.

I don?t care if we lose by 30 points, field a damn team.

Why would a player listen to a coach that says that.  They make up their own minds.  Player sits out / enters portal its their decision.  Not a coach.  Just like if they fail classes.  They failed not the coach

I don't believe that and why would a kid listen to such a thing? These kids aren't stupid. That doesn't even make sense. A lot of this stuff is just becoming ridiculous.

I would hate for the seniors not to have an opportunity to play one more time and I hope the administration will do something special for them. But wouldn't it be a damn shame if Charles Huff couldn't say that his teams went to bowls every year he was at Marshall?

I don't think so.  He's not too proud to listen to those that can help him, like Pruett.  And the portal can get you the personnel you need in the same year.  He can be a contender next year.  We went from 6-7 to 10-3 with a new OC an average DC and a new half a team, plus a coach that didn't know what he was doing much of the time. Onside kick, anyone?  Not once, but twice.  No reason we can't do it again.

I just looked at the roster. We had 112 guys on the official roster in 2024.

We have 34 guys in the portal.

We still have 78 guys on the official roster. That?s more than enough to play the game.

I haven't been to a Marshall practice for a long time. I remember a lot of these players buried in the depth chart played on scout teams during practices. These players would replicate the opposing teams offensive and defensive teams. Therefore they never worked in the Marshall offensive and defensive teams. We would be starting from scratch teaching the offense and defense to these players. I don't think there is enough time for the players to learn the system and plays.

Remember, practice makes perfect. If you have never played football, it is very difficult to get 11 players on the same page.

That is the opening season roster and it hasn't been update since September.
