  • Sad state of affairs. I don?t really care about the game but it is somewhat embarrassing. Hopefully this gives Gibby the chance to load up from the portal.

  • If Huff was a known cancer from day one, then you don't let the cancer metastasize. The cancer will hire people on his staff that will metastasize it further.

Huff has his fair share of blame. But keeping him at the end of last season was a huge mistake by two people particularly if they knew how difficult he was to deal with. We have some real issues within the athletic department. The strategy of "let's leak out some information" is now a reactive state instead of the proactive state we should have been in at the end of last season.

  • This is a slap in the face to our heritage.

We are Marshall. Are we not supposed to always represent the 75!?

I blame Huff solely for this. But our administration needs to be questioned here.

  • You play the game.  So Huff is taking 30 players?

It worked out better, because we won a Sun Belt Championship! Had Huff been let go before the JMU game, I doubt we would have won and played for a championship.

Isn't this a stain on that championship?

  • From what I heard, we had 41 available players and only 3 offensive linemen.

Don't think opting out of the bowl was the wrong call if that was the case. Would have been an absolute sham game if we did show up. Most respectful thing to do for Army is to announce it now so they can find a replacement if possible.

As for Huff, if even a fraction about what we're hearing about him is true, WVU will only be my 2nd most hated team for as long as USM employs him.

Not to me, because the players earned it. It's a tradeoff, Huff got what he wanted and we got a championship out the deal.

I don't think our program and administration is as healthy from this decision.

It's going to completely fracture the fan base.

I don't like the decisions that were made by the administration and I certainly don't like how Huff decided to act on his way out. None of it is good.

And there's nothing that we as fans can do about it but this is definitely a black eye to the fan base.

  • Also the thing that infuriates me right now, why did this have to leak on twitter? Why didn't our administration make the announcement?

Again, this is not the administrations fault. They tried to work with Huff for the past 3 years. I think Huff got pissed that the let him go after the last game. Go back and watch Huff last press conference, he was pleading indirectly for the AD and Prez to change their minds and sign him to a new contract.

This is a good question. I also think it's really important that Smith and/or Spears get on as many national sports talk shows as possible to explain in great and explicit detail just how much of a snake Huff was.

  • Has Marshall University said it is opting out of the bowl game or is Brett McMurphy saying Marshall is opting out.
When Marshall says it is opting out I will believe it. And he could be right but until Marshall says it it is just speculation.

  • Well im done. Forget winning, our pussy ass administration won?t even play.

I don?t care if we have 11 guys with a WR playing on the OL. Play the game.

It?s the same game we all played our whole lives.

Van high school probably has 15 kids on the whole team and they played an entire season.

  • i know this won't be a popular opinion on here, but if i were TG, i wouldn't take back any player that went to the portal & played a part in the rest of the team not getting to play & for playing a part in embarrassing the program.  entering the portal is 1 thing, but you can enter the portal & still offer to finish the season (play in bowl).  those guys i'd let return.  but for the 1s not willing to play b/c they don't wanna risk injury hoping that some other program will show 'em the $, the heck with 'em.

i know not many enter & then ask to come back, but it does happen sometimes.  (i know it happened with several of the WBB players we had return this year.)

Didn't you post earlier in the season that Grassie should be fired?

  • I hate this heart and soul for Marshall, but I can't see putting players out there that haven't taken a snap all year against a very good Army team. I understand the sentiment about resilience and not giving up, but at this point, I am not sure it is feasible. However, Spears better make a statement ASAP and not let this fester!!  Absolutely nothing will make me stop cheering for my beloved Herd in ALL SPORTS!!! I love Marshall University and that will never, ever change. To me, it is time to move on with a new coach, new team, and new perspective. I am extremely grateful to our players for this amazing season. I will respect the credit Huff deserves, but I will never forget his lack of character and respect for Marshall and its legacy. It is beyond heartbreaking.

  • I will also add that I think the portal needs to change. You are a part of a team until after the NCAA National Championship. You are not allowed to opt out or go into the portal and no NIL money should be given until you complete your team obligations for the ENTIRE SEASON. You agree to play for the ENTIRE SEASON unless there is an injury.

The obvious problem with that is that the national title game is now in the back half of January and most schools start their spring semesters well before that.
