  • And why are so many of you trying to prove he isn't? Let it play out!! If he tanks at S Miss then he won't get better. But if he turns S Miss around in a couple years then I'm sure the offers will roll in.

I was a big Huff supporter like you. I was talking to a couple of friends in Htown about the situation today. One friend brought up the fact that Huff had applied for at least 12 other head coaching positions before Marshall gave him his first head coaching job. While at Marshall Huff is rumored to have applied for many jobs, but had no luck. I do know that he applied for open AAC jobs including Temple recently. Usually a succesful Marshall coach is hot property, but I don't think Southern Miss is a hot job. You have to wonder why all these  other programs see something about Huff, that makes them not want to offer him jobs. I remember when Marshall hired Billy Donavan, Rick Pinto gave him a recommendation. When we hired Jones, Donovan even came to Huntington to help him get the Marshall job.

Just curious, did Nick Saban (a WV native) ever recommend Huff to Marshall? As Ernie use to say, inquiring minds want to know.

I am starting to think like you about Dan and Huff. Both had one hot season and the rest was below average. Dan may have caught lightening in a bottle once and Huff did the same.

  • Do you ever wonder it he waited too long for things to break his way at MU?  Maybe by the time he was finished fooling around with MU's inattentiveness, it was too late for something else to materialize.  USM acted pretty quickly too, flattery goes a long ways with some people, evidently he wasn't getting any from the MU administration.
Because he new that he wasn?t coming back so he made contact with Southern Miss before our game and at least 20 better coaching opportunities came open afterwards.

  • Somewhere along in the process, I heard Saban said that Huff "wasn't ready for a head coaching job."

Saban picked UL to win the conference championship game on College Gameday.

  • I mean what did people expect. Coach leaves = Kids leave. Kids play for coaches not universities. Regardless of whatever Huff has going on the players loved him.

  • I'm seeing far more people putting the blame on the system than on us.

You are completely correct. I live 200 miles away and that's the narrative I'm hearing from the fan on the street.

I say this as I am both an alumni of South Charleston and Marshall University, this is NOT a loss.

He has been a problem for our football program the last two weeks. I talked to several people that told me some of the chicanery he was a part of.

  • Henry Baker will land at Temple to coach the secondary under KC Keeler. I thought the guy did a nice job here with the secondary. He will do well there as he recruited New Jersey well.
