  • What a PR nightmare!

The national media right now is controlling the narrative, and it will only get worse unless we make a definitive statement.

We were never out in front of this situation from the get go. We tried the approach of letting certain leaks get out to Herd fans and hoping that they believe it.

Many are now blaming the portal when discussing us not going to the bowl, not so much Marshall

  • Anybody hearing the punishment for canceling bowl is a ban on several years for future bowl games?

  • with 75 bowl games or however many they have now, they can't afford to ban teams from playing in 'em  hahaha

heck, they have teams like LT now & JMU a couple yrs ago that weren't supposed to be bowl eligible playing in 'em b/c they're so desperate for teams

  • 30 guys in portal plus your AA DE who was going to attend but sit out due to his projected draft status (which he should) plus the HC and much of staff leaving made it a reality. Other schools will have many in portal but very few will have as many starters as we did enter portal. Maybe the remaining coaches hoped enough of the portal entries would decide to play anyway. No way the new coach had any input into the situation.

Face it, the guys who really go screwed were the seniors playing their last game.

CH never expressed any desire to stay here and that is his prerogative. He was looking for other jobs from the get go. The bs of buyout clauses and paying asst coaches more is just that imo. Plenty of coaches will say those things so they don't look like the bad guy. He never uttered the word Marshall or anyone at MU during his SM presser. Glad Pres. Smith etc took high road and thanked him repeatedly. You have to give Huff credit for being humble enough to make changes (Doege etc) and working his butt off until last second to get a championship. A lot of guys would not have done that.

Add to that, guess when he is making his first big public appearance, yep December 21 Men's basketball game against Marshall. I know some do not want to hear it, but the guy just did not like it hear.

  • contrary to the popular theme on this site a wk or so ago, CH wasn't leaving us for USM.  everybody was whining about how bad that would make us look, that he'd "prefer" there to here.  as i said then, he went there b/c he wasn't wanted (on HIS terms) here.  & as E-man pointed out, you can see in his last presser he wanted to stay here.  he's not at USM b/c he'd rather be there or b/c they're "higher on the totem pole" than we are -- he's there b/c that's the most prestigious place that was willing to employ him on his terms, a 1-7 SBC team.

so, yeah, i'm sure he's harboring a lot of animosity toward our admin -- look at where's at right now (USM)!  he stayed in the same conference, & went from 1st to last!

if CH wanted to be here , he would be here, end of story

  • This is the same athletic director who did not renew the contract of perhaps the best track coach that Marshall has ever had and whose family donated millions of dollars for the indoor track facility.

Huff started talks and his contract with USM the week we went down to play them.

That last presser was him realizing that leveraging Marshall was a mostake and he was stuck going to USM.

Anyone that believes a word that comes out of Huff's mouth and continues to believe he's a victim is a fool.

The coaches.  The AD takes 10 minutes and comes up with a coaching list then specifically targets them.  He doesn?t conduct true national searches.

I know when contract talks break down you can?t believe either side. But I do not blame our players.  They won a champ and lost their HC to the bottom feeder ...... did anyone in admin ever get their thoughts and feelings .... NO .... they dipped.  Coaches didn?t talk them into it.  Some decided to leave bc probably didn?t like how all this went down.  This team stuck together this year.  Helluva coaching leadership job.  Now it Coach Gibson?s turn to win.

I do recall that happening. Just mind blowing how that his contract did not get renewed. Jeff Small was not only a great coach but he was just a great guy. I miss coach Small not being around.

I don't think he's a victim... he improved from what we paid him and is moving on. We will see how it works for us.  I personally enjoyed this season right up until we pissed away best bowl game we ever received.

  • If all this proves true and Huffy and his minions really told our kids to enter the portal, I'd sue him and his agent for our Independence Bowl payout, plus punitive costs for pain & suffering, defamation of the university's reputation, etc.

  • The players put themselves in the portal not the coach!  It?s a players decision along with their family.  Could he suggest it yes .... but so would about any head coach moving on to the next school.  He recruited them and should get a chance to still have them.  Player decision .... Huff did not hold them hostage with a gun to their heads.  The admin should have known this would happen.  The players loved their coaches (do you hw admin).   Players pick the coach first.  It?s just how it is in the trenches .... sorry you all.

Freedom of speech. The coach can say whatever he wants. The player is the one to decide. We have the wild Wild West in college athletics and you want to hold a coach responsible even if he said I would hit the portal if I were you? Please!!!

  • Guys, if Huff is as good of a Coach as some are saying then why is Southern Miss the best job he could get? College coaching is small fraternity and I can guarantee the word is out that Huff brings a lot of baggage with him! With all the Head Coaching openings available and the Sun Belt Champion Head Coach doesn?t a better offer should tell you something!

And why are so many of you trying to prove he isn't? Let it play out!! If he tanks at S Miss then he won't get better. But if he turns S Miss around in a couple years then I'm sure the offers will roll in.

Do you ever wonder it he waited too long for things to break his way at MU?  Maybe by the time he was finished fooling around with MU's inattentiveness, it was too late for something else to materialize.  USM acted pretty quickly too, flattery goes a long ways with some people, evidently he wasn't getting any from the MU administration.
