  • Coming from the University instead of the AD is interesting. Hopefully Spears is on his way out. The way this whole thing has been handled is embarrassing. Even more embarrassing is the lack of statements and transparency.

You really think Spears would put his name on something like that??

  • I know there are a lot of moving parts and egos involved that present many variables, but have the last two weeks been the single biggest sh!t show in the history of Marshall Sports?

We can rationalize it and make excuses all we want "the changing football landscape"...but Marshall just turned down it's biggest bowl in it's history and a chance (with a win) to end the season in the top 25. Do we just not know how to FBS football anymore?

I really think Spears is the next to step down...which will add to the chaos. What a complete and total dumpster fire.

  • What's even more embarrassing is I'm pretty sure there are multiple schools losing a coach who are also playing in a bowl this year (obviously dealing with NIL and the Transfer Portal too) and here we are with are thumbs up our arses fumbling it away. No excuses here. Just incompetence.

I doubt it. The bowl or bowls would rather a college be honest with them than have to deal with a partial team playing in their bowl.

Not sure if it will, but it probably should. Why would any bowl want to deal with an institution that can't get it together and hold up their end of the deal.

I think they would prefer us to be competent rather than honest about how incompetent we are. Its not like we are the only team in America who is dealing with NIL, the TP, who has a bowl, and lost a coach.

  • You guys have misplaced anger IMO.  If Huff really cared about ?his? players he would have said ?you guys have had a hell of a season, but it?s not over. You have a responsibility to the seniors in this room to make sure they have one more chance to go out there and play the game they have given so much to. Remember that not too far in the future you may be facing your last chance and you won?t want your teammates abandoning you?.

Instead he says - be like me and only worry about yourself.

Dead on. It's not about loyalty, being a good teammate and character. It's all about me getting mine and screw everyone else. Players could have entered the portal on the 29th and played in the bowl but they and Huff said, screw Marshall and screw my teammates. Sad

I am HIGHLY upset with Huff. But we're just gonna let the administration slide? Do they deserve to get a pass here?

They proved incapable of swallowing their own pride. Put their feet down and was unwilling to negotiate with the staff. Both sides IMHO look really bad right now.

I wish it didn't get to this place, but her we are. And our admin is unwilling to make a public apology, appeal or clarification.

  • apparently our team this year was just a bunch of mercenaries/hired guns, brought in here to play 13 games & get Charlie his championship so he could use it as leverage for his next deal

Huff had a deal signed with USM before our season was over. He stood up in front of the crowd at USM and told them he had planned to be there the week before, which was the week of the championship game. He knew from the beginning of this season he was out the door, one way or another. He didn't want to negotiate with Marshall.

If Marshall had offered him an extension before this season you all would have been screaming bloody murder.

No one on here wanted him back until the end of JMU and at that point he had already agreed to go to USM.

So what did Marshall do that was so wrong, exactly?

It?s not about freakin? pride. It?s about doing the right thing for the long term stability of the program.  Just look at the stupid buyout clause in the USM - Huff contract.  If two parties are not willing to make a mutual commitment why in the hell do you want to enter in to a contract with them?  It?s stupid business.

I guess I have just been through this enough times to see it for what it is. I?ve let high performing people walk because it becomes counterproductive to have to constantly deal with their demands.  When I would propose an offer sheet to a client I would let them know it was my best deal, if not you just end up wasting time. I never accepted a counter offer in my life and always counseled my employees to act the same.
